Another fan here. Just caught up. Happy upcoming birthday Jim

Hi Gas Thanks.

Think I may have got my self a birthday & Christmas present.

A new Stainless grill. Old grill lasted about 25 years, first new grill about 2 months, second new grill about 4 months. Have high hopes for this one.
May still get a nice thick "T" bone.

A funny story from my days playing Tombstone Cop.
As kids we played a game called "Ditch em", one car took off & tried to hide & get back to the starting place without being discovered.

My Buddy Danny had a girlfriend come to town, he & her were doing a fair amount of drinking. Pretty soon they took off wanting me to chase them. Fairly soon here they come roaring down the sidewalk & parking in front of the salon door. Iwent in got Danny told him to get the car off the sidewalk. Then took him to jail, he was laughing, joking & having a good time. Pretty soon here come the girlfriend ranting & raving. If I don't let Danny out she is going to Tucson & get her lawyer. Danny looked at the blanket he had his head on, Some previous offender had wiped his but on the blanket. Fun was over for Danny. After an hour or 2 I took Danny home

Off she went, right after picking up a young man about 22 to go with her. About 2 miles out of town she pulled off on a dirt road & had her way with this young man. This young man was very, very religious & didn't believe that people would do that unless they planned to get married. Had to feel sorry for him, he moped around for about 3 weeks waiting for her to come back & get married.

More later if you like
Jim

Guess it's time to update you on all the excitement around this place.

Baby doves have left the nest. 1St 1 flew (flopped ) out of the nest & hit me in the chest, before going on down. Reached for it but it scrambled away. The kid picked it up, it panicked a little at first then settled down. He rubbed its head & back for a while then set on the out door stove. It soon flew off & over the fence.
#2 didn't want to leave, for 2 days the parents tried to push it out of the nest with no luck. On the 3rd day it flew over to 1 of the metal beams, sat for a little while, then flew away,

Rain & more rain all night long. Still sprinkling the next AM. Wow a 1/4 Inch. It did fill up the mud holes in the road. The rain & clouds kept the tempeture down for a couple of days. Down to 42 one night & only 64 or 66 the next day or so.

Saw a cat going to where the quail nest. First cat I've seen here in 8 to 10 years.

Great Dane & another big dog came in the yard couple of days ago. They may be 1 of the reasons it takes over 200# of dog food a month. Some mornings all 4 dog dishes are empty. Was blaming it on dog & Riley, but they are now getting help. Kid is 6+' tall, the dog with Great Dane stood up & put his paws on the kids shoulder, it is as tall as the kid when standing on hind legs.

Is it an Omen??? I don't really believe in such things generally, But.
I had a serial dream 4 nights in a row. Big dog in back yard, It sort of looked dead.
Next night Dog was still there but much alive.
3 Rd night I tried to pet it, but it kept taking my wrist in it's mouth & moving it away.
4 Th night, dreamed a lady came form the pound to get the dog.
What do you think????

How I got to be cop in Tombstone, by going fishing.
Chief of police ask me if I would take the job. Told him no I was going fishing. Didn't really go fishing, just went to dad up in the white mountains. Some how I met him at Beaver Head Lodge. There was a really old tractor there he wanted down on the river at the ranch. Put gas in it from 1 of those pumps that had a glass top that you pumped in the gallons you wanted. The old guy fired right up & away I went. The old guy had seen a lot use, external brake band & the peddles levered over some raised metal on the floor boards. The raised paces had worn away to nothing & there were no brakes. The old thing would only run about 6mph, but red hill is steep, lots of switch backs, with a long drop to the bottom. I wanted some brakes just in case, so I put a couple of sticks don for the pedal to leave over & used them a few times on the switch backs. Think this may have been the first time I ever drove a tractor.

Got back to town about a week later. Went in to see Granddad & he says you got the job. What job??? Your the new night cop. You did not argue with Granddad, just said yes sir. So i became the night cop. All night shifts, 6 days a week, for $300 a month. Midnight till 8am. Was told that I was the only 1 that did not sleep on the job. Fooled them, parked under a street light & sat up and leaned on the window. Think the others tried to hide 7 got caught.

More later. Have I told you about the shoot out with an armed robber???

Hi Jim . There was a news blurb about a shooting at the O'K corral in Tombstone few weeks ago . Where one of the actors used live Ammo. Know anything about the incidence. ??

Also remember that a deputy Sheriff from Cochise County was practicing the quick draw and shot his toes. about the year 70.
And about that time a Train load of munitions blew up near the town of St. David.
Now being a former deputy know anything of these news items'

Looks like you may have a wetter than normal winter so blowing dust and rain doesn't mix well what would you want.

Keep up the stories of your youthful experiences.

I like to read your stories, it's almost as if I was there at the same time watching the scene unfold!

Do your remember the year when you became the town cop...just to put in perspective the $300 salary?

Hi folks,
I started playing cop in 1962. After a year got a raise up to $325 a month. Quit to work in a gas station, was guaranteed 60 hours a week & could make more money. I also attended the first police school ever in Cochise county. 4 Mornings for a week in Douglas.

T yes more rains, but very little more water, as the rains don' amount to much.

I hope to be out when they come in some time, Might like to keep them, as I am feeding them anyway.

More later,
Jim

I've discovered that you are never to old to have someone else tell you you're young and inexperienced!
