I have a 2003 Toyota Tundra that has done me very well. Right now at 114K miles. I've had to replace a light bulb for the bed, a over drive switch in the shifter a window motor and a fuel cap. Total cost in 6 years from dealership repair expenses has been about $1000 for the above. I had the dealership do a few minor regular service items and that was perhaps another $1k. I do my own oil changes and minor servicing.

I hope to take it over 200K miles and turn it over to my son for his first car (he's currently 12).

The new models seem about twice the size. They just dwarf my older model. I have a friend that has one and it's a beaut!

Larry

Man, glad my expenses haven't been that high on my '99 Silverado w/ about the same mileage.

I'll bet the O/P's truck will be trouble free up until 100K.

I was hoping for that........

This is not a huge deal, but my remote door locks no longer work. I have tried both remotes... Nothing. They stopped working last night after the ride home from work....

I have checked all the fuses and they are good. I know that one of the remotes batteries are good, and I did not test the other.

I am researching if I can reset them to the vehicle now, but my fear is that some wiring probably chaffed and shorted with the body movement?

I hope not to be chasing this around for a while.....

The truck is driving great other than this little issue..... Very few rattles compared to before!

Brian,

On the remotes, if they are the design I am thinking, pop them open and clean the contacts. There are carbon pads on backside of the silicone buttons that seem to get an oily accumulation. Also on the circuit board where they contact... clean that up too. You can use alcohol and and eraser.

My Mom has a Toyota Camry. She has problems with the remotes all of the time.... imagine that. Now the passenger power door lock quit. We just fixed the broken door handle earlier in the year. My Daughter's Honda Accord has had persistent power door lock problems.

Thanks hoot, but I only use one remote. The other sits in the house and has only been used once. So, the one in the house should work if it was a contact rpoblem. I also checked the battery of the one in the house and its good. I think its a little deeper problem.....

I had this problem a year ago. Both remotes quit. I looked in the owners manual and they have a reprogramming proceedure.

I followed the directions and they work fine.

Look in your owner's manual.

Thanks for the tip.... I found it in there just before I read this.:) I spent about 30 minutes on it at lunch. No luck getting anything working. I did find a loom of wires that was broke open. I did not mess with it much because I don't want to make any problem worse... Once I get home I will pull it apart and see if there might be any broken wires or shorts....... I am sure this is an easy fix.... Either I fix it, or back to the dealer...... I can live without remotes............

No, don't take the attitude you can "live without remotes". Take it back to the dealer. Start pulling wires out and you'll be the one on the hook for breaking something. That truck should be 100% functional-no questions asked.

I had to reprogram my remotes more than once to get them both working again.

Live without the remotes?! For the tax dollars I've paid to Government Motors, you dang well better have working remotes!! I'm paying them good money to fix their mistakes!

Everyone is into bashing gm these days, from this post to the ones on medium duty to several others. I have said before that I am a PROUD GM owner, years under my belt as a GM medium and light duty tech and now spend my days running a gm service department.
The new d-max's do not and will not get the same mpg's as the older ones due to 2 things, a DPF, and more power. The torque race has cost us mpg's and those week california lab rats that die from everything have choked the engines way down.
I have 50k plus on my 07 v-max with only one issue and that was a rear axel seal, have 40k on a 08 denali yukon, only issues it has had were a couple of trim items. I have a guys truck in here right now that is an 08 d-max cab and chasis, most of his weigh sheets are between 25k abd 29k and his average mpg is 15 after 70k of driving.

it does not matter if its a 1000.00 beater or a 70,000 rig its gonna break something. When you look around down here in you see a pretty even amount of the big 3 yet the dodge and ford stores are always backed up in their service departments, that tells me alot. The fact that the ford and dodge guys are always comparing their trucks to a gm tells me something.

I drive and own what i know about, i buy what makes sense to me, i realize nothing and no one is perfect, I understand the economy is in bad shape and people with way more power than me are trying to fix it, I vote and I sleep cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
