Would that work ok on cast material?

I'm pretty sure its steel/not cast iron...if so, yeah it would work better than leaving it alone..Probably would take an angle grinder and V groove it and then fill it with a couple of passes. As you might realize, angle iron is cast/extruded and is very weldable...BobG in VA

Edit...oops. just read the issue about it being cast iron..yeah, that would be a problem unless you can heat it and then cool it very slowly with the right kind of rod...which I don't have at this momemt...BobG

I would think $1300 total (if that is right) for transportation, labor for installation of a $1200 part, and the part, is being treated well. Good one for Mahindra and the new dealer.

Don't know where this price for the part came from. I don't know the price of the part. If I misstated the "price" in one of my posts, it was in error. Sorry.

"The part lists for $1233.00 and I tried to get a weight on it, but couldn't find it. Mahindra treated you well, even though the shipping seems high. I would bet the dealer marked it up a bit, but believe me when I say the dealer earned every penny of it. You did well.

Apologies. This post slipped right past me...I think a lot slips past me, but then how would I know that?

Under the circumstances,:(, I had no problem paying for the "services rendered", as you stated. This included transportation and labor to change part out. Greenway Equipment was above board and fair to me.

My gripe, if you will, was that the $500 seems excessive for shipping. Regardless, I felt it should have been stated up front. Talking with the people at the dealership that did the work, only reinforced this feeling.

This is only my opinion, but it has been my experience that Mahindra does not look for the best shipping price. I have had a few things shipped to me from Mahindra and have seen the shipping costs that Mahindra paid and I would have to say that they were at the top end of what is considered acceptable. You would think that a company that ships stuff everyday would look for a carrier that would give them more competitive pricing.

Oh, and as far as the cost of shipping, if you are looking for the best shipping price, a lot of the time you don't know what the final shipping cost is until it has reached its destination. That has been our experience anyway.

I can't believe the casting is cracked at all. I would hope this isn't common on Mahindras. The ones I have looked at seem fairly heavy built. Having said that I would want some kind of root cause analysis on why it happened from Mahiandra since you were both sharing in the cost of repair. I would think they would want the cast piece returned and analized. Then give you a reason as to why it failed. I think they came part way in resolving your problem, but fell short in the end. I would also asked for a warrenty on the new piece in case it is a design flaw and at 1000 hrs you replace it again.
Agian you have met them part way on this problem and since they required you pay part of the cost you have a vested interest. I think they still owe you a little suger IMO.

Good Luck:)

As stated, I haven't heard even a guess as to why this happened. I imagine that there could be many "educated guesses".

Mahindra might be able to come up with a reason, because this does concern me. However, apparently they did not want the part back. I asked for it and got it back with the tractor. It would make a heck of a base for a small table:cool:, or.....

I agree. Purchase an implement from an "away" company, and they seem to do their best to keep shipping costs down. Perhaps Mahindra's mindset is that when it involves parts, the customer has to have them, and they don't get too concerned over the $ of shipping.

Maybe this is why I thought the shipping $ was so High. I was comparing it to my experiences purchasing implements that were much heavier than this piece, but the provider actually cared about keeping the shipping costs down. (just a thought from the void in my noggin;)).

That is amazing they didn't want the old part back. I have been involved in supplying mfg parts to another domestic OEM Ag tractor company for the last 25years and they return any part we made that is involved a warrenty claim to us for evaluation and that is including replacement parts on obsolete models that have not been mfg for 70 years. And yes we are billed if we are determained to be the problem. We are then responisible for any of our suppliers that might be involved. It is a good system as it holds us accountable as well as them. All our parts lot information must be tracable thru their tractors serial#. Believe it or not every nut and bolt has to tracable on their tractor. Tough system, but works very well. With live mfg data control on the shop floor we can trace down to almost the second the part was made, with what material, certification data on the material, operator info, machine data, etc.

My guess would be they have seen this before and are repairing them as they come up. It's PPM,s are not high enough to warrent a recall or service bullentin. They may have traced to a lot of castings and know how many may develope this issue. It spreads the cost out over time and not all owners will see a problem. This is just a guess. ;)

If you are happpy with the tractor and they did respond and did help some, that may be better than most. If they remeber you had a problem when you are shopping for a tractor again that would make things alright with me. Nobody is perfect, but how they resond to problems makes the difference.:)

Thanks for posting this. I'll be checking my 6500 tomorrow. I am glad you are so understanding of the charges. If they would have told me goodwill covered it and then sent me a bill for over $1200 the air would have turned blue for a bit. I can see a charge for them to pick up your tractor and bring it to their shop if it is far away but that's about it. You shouldn't be accountable for how far away the part is for the dealer. Their goodwill should have taken care of that, or they could have sent it with some new tractors they were already having shipped. It would have been small potatoes on a semi full of tractors.

It does kinda get my dander up, if you consider that it is most certainly a manufacturing defect...at least until proven other wise. This is something that I had no control of. A problem like this is not to be expected within the life of the tractor.

Again though, it is the backhanded way that Mahindra acted, that will stay with me. A company such as this should be expected to act in an open and honest manner. Another "sign" of the times perhaps. I guess I am still living in the 50's.

Tim, did you look at your Mahindra yet?? After this thread started, I checked my 6000 and guess what? there are hairline cracks on both sides, EXACTLY where Maine's are....I'm thinking this is a manufacturing blunder....It appears to be associated with the FEL as it bolts up to either end of the piece...my FEL is a 2002 KMM,,,it also appears that the frame has been changed since my Mdl264 came out...anyone else?? Rback...what say you? BobG in VA
