Bad smell in house

put some veggy oil in the drains.... if like us you're away for several weeks the water in the drains will evaporate out and the septic gas will come in -- putting oil on top of the water keeps it from doing that.

we really need smell-o-web for these kinds of threads...

because lets face it

1) a dead critter has a very distinct smell
2) propane or NG has a very distinct smell different from 1)
3) sewer gas has a very distinct smell different from 1) or 2)

but its like trying to describe colors... just how do you describe a smell?

Won't the vegetable oil turn rancid, and then....STINK?

Jon, I have a small chest-of-drawers that I bought unpainted many years ago. I stained and finished the chest myself. Problem is, it stinks. It's not a strong odor, but when you close up a room with it in it, the odor of the wood or the finish is very evident when you enter the room. With a 2-yr old house, you could still have paint, adhesives, or putty causing the odor. I doubt it is propane.

For the record did you stain/finish the inside of the drawers? A no-no, that smell will never go away.

For this, turn the gas off and vent it out of the pipe as best you can before you go. Crack a window if you can. If its still threre...Get an airwick, scented candles, poporie, and a gallon size of Frebreeze!! :D

doesn't seem to .....maybe cause it mixes with the water? dunno .... pinesol works too --- but I'm afraid of it hurting the septic.

do a high pressure test of your propane lines: i usually air gas lines to at least 80+ psi and make sure it will hold for a day or two with absolutely no drop: then your assured you don't have a leak...
heehaw
Make sure you don't put such high pressure on any appliance as it will blow them,
