Lots of great ideas. If I had to do it over, the secret seems to be dig DEEP and a bag of lime. (I guess that’s justifies me getting that backhoe /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif). But, since Coco has already been is been buried twice, I will dump some big rocks around the site. I guess it will be considered a monument. I will mix some moth balls on the outer edges as well. I really don’t want to use the pepper because our animals. It’s amazing how well these coyotes dig. Thanks for all the ideas

Unfortunatly I too have a pet graveyard started at my place( I have only been here 2 yrs), I put the animals in trashbags then buried them. I have had no problems with scavengers and we have plenty around.

I usually dig a post hole in the ground, (depending on the size of the deceased one), and it keeps the soil undisturbed around the hole, making digging more difficult (apparently as it never has been a problem). Depth is such to get about 20-24 inches of soil over the carcass. Add one rock at the top of the hole and it makes for a neat burial site.
The lime is put in to help speed up decay of the deceased. Likely helps with the smell too.

When we put down a pet cat a couple of years back, I buried him about 12-18" down and then covered the grave with a bunch of stones. Never had any problem with scavaging beasts.

I've buried 3 dogs on our property as well as 1 dog and many cats on my parents property. All lived long, happy lives and I had to have them put down due to complications from old age. Here's how I buried them.

The vet gave them to me in a very heavy plastic bag, which I believe helps keep the scent in. I dug a hole as deep as possible( almost 4 feet) with my manual post hole digger, then started widening it by shearing off the sides. I made the shape of the hole only large enough to lay the animal down in. I put at least 2-3 more heavy duty plastic bags over the one that the vet gives us. Then I lay the animal in the hole. I back fill it about a foot, tamp it down and repeat until the hole is filled. I even hill it up about a little to compensate for the settling of the animal. That's it. Never had a problem.
