.

But I'd be for removing it with plan to replace the seal at the same time.

Easy to suggest without regard for the effort and/or expense in changing an axle seal. Especially if it is a flanged rear axle shaft as I suspect.

Yep... that orange twine is some nasty stuff!

You should see the "leak" it can cause on the pasturns and hocks of horses and cows!

Sure appreciate all the ideas. The gap between the hubaxle and the housing is very tight. Hard to believe all the twisted twine forced inside a gap maybe 10 sheets of printer paper. Whatever it is a very tight gap. My expensive thin fillet knife on the tip may squeeze in some. Too tight for a hook carpet knife. I heard one voice for lighter fluid and fire, but not from this site. I still have not been successful putting my old recycled Massey Harris weights on. Too tight to get my fingers behind. I could mig weld a tag on the four bolts but have decided to add another layer of New Holland recycled weights. They bolt perfect on a deere. I could then add as a third set the Massey Harris weights but it would stick out 6" past the edge of the tire and hub. Also I do not need the six wheel weights, 3 on a side. Two 65lb and the old beauty the 125lb Massey Harris. 510 lb total is more than I need.

Always good being in the barn doing something constructive. I hate retirement.

Never Retire. It is highly over rated.

victronox the same people who make swiss army knives make a cheapo ss flexible blade serrated knife that you can twist into tight spots to cut line. I use them all the time cutting line out of boat wheels and the nice thing is when you break one it is less than 4 bucks.

The serrated knife I have is too thick. Needs to be razor thin.

I have a thin razor knife, forgot about that, it has break off ends to expose a fresh knife tip. I can extend it all the way out but it will be wobbly and it still is short.

survival saw filament?

20 yrs ago the boys bought me a survival knife for Christmas from sears but I am sure it is too thick. With grandkids around I am sure it is put away safe somewhere in an unknown black hole. Useless thing.
