balancing beads for flail mower.

just thinking about the vibration of a flail more and the especially as teeth wear i can only imagine it will get worse. at the same time reading about balancing beads for tires. so...

is there any possibility that filling the flail drum with bb's or similar might help balance things out? i understand your not actually balancing things with beads but rather reducing the effect of imbalance by increase the mass. but it seams like it may be cheap insurance, maybe worth an experiment...

UH, UH, UH, No!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! physics is a heartless BIATCH and it will not be messed with nor can it be countered with balancing beads


NOPE, NOPE, NOPE, the centrifugal force created by the spinning flail mower rotor, knife hangers and the knifes will not be countered by balancing beads in the steel tube, they will just wander from end to end and make more noise.

If you have bad or broken knives and or missing knife hangers you need to open the parts stash if you have one or you will have to start a parts stash.

i understand where your coming from but, it blew me away how much 18oz of beads can help a large mud 90ish lbs swamper tire.

the beads wont wander, the will be held on the outer wall by centrifical force. and increaseing an evenly distributed rotating mass in a reasonably balanced system, even by laws of physics, will concentrate the rotations center of mass. the biggest problem i see is that the the drum is short and long not narrow and tall like a tire.

Is it easy to add and remove? If so, try it and see. One test is worth a thousand theories as my old Tech Lead at Boeing used to tell me.

Also, if possible, use antifreeze instead of beads: cheaper, easier to add (usually) and easier to remove (usually).
