Ballast box. Extend or not

I like the Ballast Box's because they are so compact, you don't have to worry about it hitting things as much.

Have to agree with kennyd. I used rear mounted equipment (snow blade, box blade, or mower) for years as ballast weight. Finally bit the $200 bullet a few years ago for the ballast box. Besides requiring less space to maneuver, it is so much more compact minimizing the chances of catching on something.

How much does you blade weigh? Are your tires filled?

You bet...rear blades aren't really that heavy (not near as heavy as a ballast box)...and they're way too wide when working in close quarters.

A ballast box is just that. It's made for ballasting. A back blade is not. Sure,if your tires are filled, the rear is firmly planted, but you'll never hear the cries of your front axle screaming for relief.;)

Yup. I wanted it for its size. Tired of banging the mower or box blade into things. Plus this thing will be a beast in the snow and I won't have to worry about the ol tail whipping into a car/post or whatever.

Already finding a use for the forks. My mailman was kind enough to back over my well cap

There is nothing wrong with the ballast box and maneuverability was not an issue for me. My BB weighs more that my ballast box and I agree it sticks out but on a steep hill the BB saved my bacon when I started sliding down my mountain and the tires didn't grip enough.

I definitely agree that a brushog is about cumbersome but the BB suites me well and performs do able duty for me. Generally when using the FEL I am using the BB in conjunction.

I was just throwing out the suggestion in the first place.

I would NEVER have bought something as USELESS as a ballast box, BUT my 955 came with one,........I LIKE it!

I do have several BB, and one has 400# of solid 3x3 bars across it (VERY heavy, off my ole 8N's with loaders AND has 400# of weights to hang off the triangle frame as well o get some STEERING). I dont miss those days, although I do NEED another 52' N, just love the nostaliga.
