Other than from the manufacturer's, I have not seen advertisement for a Ballast Box to purchase. The prices I have seen from John Deere seem steep for a simple box. I have to date used my RFM as a ballast box, but would seriously consider purchase of a ballast box, if I could find one for a reasonable price.

If you do some searches you will find several clever ballast box solutions here on TBN. They are pretty easy to make. I especially like the one where the owner built a plywood box form around a hitch bar and turned it into the lower pins for a huge concrete block. This allows you to shape it any way you want.

JD box is very heavy in it's own right, with out ballast. It's very solidly built and worth the price if you need to be able to move it without the tractor. You can fill it with concrete blocks so you can remove them when you need to move it around with out hooking it up to the tractor. Or you can put a few sections of PVC in the box, then pour it full of concrete to provide a ballast box with a place for tools with handles, or your fishing pole.

I use my box blade. It is VERY heavy and I didn't have to spend $$ on something that only acted as a counter weight. Of course my CK30 is a very heavy 30hp tractor and doesn't need a lot of weight to stabilize it with even with a full FEL.
