Anyone have sources for tractor ballast boxes?

I made one myself, out of 55 gal drum.. less than $100 all told. including the concrete and the drawbar from TSC. I really like it, for the storage too.!

John Deere makes a nice one that is very compact that you can fill with cement or sand or what have you. I really like mine as it transfers HP to the ground for great traction when doing loader work. The BB cost about $200...well worth it.

Both John Deere and Kubota sell purpose built ballast box's.

A search for "ballast box" will bring up many hits.

My favorite idea is an inexpensive Carry-All that can be used for multiple tasks. Then pile some bags of concrete on a pallet, lift it with the Carry-All, and you have your ballast. The Carry-All has other uses as does the concrete.

I got my Deere brand box from a co-worker's brother who got it when he bought his tractor (some dealers throw in a ballast box whenever they sella tractor with a loader). So, got a never used box filled with sand for about half the price from a dealer. As JDGreenGrass, dealers sell them for about $200.
It wouldn't be too difficult to make one, if you have access to the equipment required (a welding machine and press brake, if you want it fancy) and can scrounge up the materials. Also, keep an eye of Craigslist, your local paper's "For Sale" and farmer's auctions.

I gutted a maytag washing machine, fitted the 3PL pins/attachments to the shell with pipe running across internally between the pins, filled with concrete (left over from footings pour free!). Around 600kg ballast box for the cost of the 3PL attachments.
