Ballast weight......UGHHHH...HEAVY

Well I went ahead an hooked the ballast barrel up to the FEL to move it out from under my shop. FEL lifted it with no problem. But when I went to back out from under the barn, the tractor wouldn't move. I thought it had jumped out of gear or the brake was still on. Nope, I was in 2 WD and the left rear tire was off the ground! I put in 4 WD and backed out slowly and lowered the barrel as soon as I got it off the floor of my shop.

As you can see by the pictures it is heavy and the left rear tire is almost off the ground in this picture. Sitting where it is, it won't move in 2 WD.

The barrel is hung about 4" in front of the bucket blade and the bucket is tilted as far back as it will go. Don't know how much the KK 5' bush hog weighs, but than goodness I still had it on the tractor. I think it's going to be all the ballast I will ever need!

My neighbor just stopped by to show me a new used trailer he had bought. Blah Blah Blah.... then I showed him the ballast weight I had put together. He warned me to be careful that I didn't wear out my hydro pump.

He had a tractor almost identical to mine but now has an 81 horse (I think) Kubota of some kind. He's been a farmer all of his life and had all sorts of tractors and I trust his opinion and advice.

My max lift at the balls on the lift arms is 1998#. I think the barrel is going to weigh around 800#.

Anyone had any troubles with their pump while hauling around their "weights"?

Well I have only had my 750 lb or so barrel on for a little over a year, but no problems yet. It stays on about 90 percent of the time. Only comes off for mowing, which the type of mowing I am talking about (brushcutting) is just a few times in the summer and fall. I really like having it on there, as I do a lot of loader work, and I like the space to haul a few things in the top and the handle tools in 2 inch pvc inside. and the 2 inch receiver on the back.

Nice,

I didn't make mine that fancy. I just filled it up an left some room on the top for junk. May wish some day that I had spent the extra time and did what you did. I can always make another one fairly cheap too. I have several more barrels.

Nice ! I ever have taken a look at this tractor,yeah it is a nice tractor but a little heavy.
