OFF BUT ON TOPIC:
Has anyone been sucessful at obtaining strats from an existing plant? I tried cutting a shoot off and using some of my ever so fetile mud technique i have used on so many other things but the bamboo just dies. I tried cutting a fresh runner and it did not take.

For running bamboo, dig a small side stem, or group of stems, which already has roots, will be at least 1 year old. New shoots/runners don't have roots yet.

For clumping bamboo, you have to dig & divide, with root.

I have several varieties of bamboo, regularly take new starts.

post pictures of your bamboo -- i'd love to see it!!

Here are some pictures of the bamboo that is on three sides of my property. It appeares to be about 30 to 40 ft, and about 1 1/2 in at the base.
