Blessings Be Upon Thee, Little One | Travels With Barley

With great sadness I report the passing of my sidecar adventure companion.

Sorry, I couldn't read the whole thing for the tears. I know the pain you are feeling; I offer you my condolences. When I lost my little Molly Girl, it was 5 years before I could bear to have another take her place...but as they say, time changes everything, and now my baby dog is named Lucy, and I love her just as much. I tip my glass to you and Barley...and may God Bless.

Oh how sad to hear of this. My sincere condolences. Barley had a great life here. I hope he wasn't in much pain.

I've enjoyed you and your dogs for years, especially since I have had 2 great Goldens myself. Still dogless here, mainly due to the cost of vetcare.

There is a group of people who are trying to figure out why Goldens get cancer so frequently. I would love for them to be able to figure it out if possible. It is a tough way for them to pass.

What a beautiful tribute, heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I'm very sorry for your loss, and very envious of your wonderful memories of the times you two shared together. Make no mistake, Barley will always be riding with you, nothing can steal those memories.

Pete, on a rabbit trail, and being a motorcycling adventurist yourself, here's a blog site that a buddy of mine is doing as he travels the world. He had trouble deciding which bike to use and there's a segment on why he chose what he did. As he adds stories, they end up chronologically flipped, so you have to scroll to the bottom to start at the start.

I got more tears reading the story on your website. I will hoist a "Point Special Lager"(brought from Wisconsin by my associate pastor) from Stevens Point Brewery later today in honor of Barley. (These beers are really coveted by me down here where you can't get them, another of my many sins...)

So sad to see any family pet leave this world.....as they are not with us for long. We have had 3 Goldens, 2 have died due to cancer. The current one Precious is now 12 and in pretty good health. Dogs always seem to know when they are about to leave us and let us say our good-byes to them.

R.I.P Barley !

i loved reading your story on your friend and the pictures too. :)

Sorry you lost your friend. I lost my 12 year old dog last winter. I knew it was getting to be her time to go. I had her since she was born.

She was such a good dog. Never once did I train her in commands but she always obeyed the commands. We used to take walks around the yard together and sometimes in the summer just sit down in the yard together and sometimes she'd lay across my lap.

We'd sit there for awhile and sometimes she'd fall asleep. I'd sit there on the ground for an hour with her while she was sleeping.

Last time she rode with me and my brother in my truck from Arkansas to Kansas I bought her a hamburger which she truly enjoyed.

In her last 6 months, she went blind, and could hardly stand up. She had to lean against me or my dad to eat.

She hung in there for quite awhile.

I stayed with her more often during her last 6 months on earth. Gave her lots of hugs and even kisses and told her I love her.
