It's always sad to loose a good companion like that. As a matter of fact, today is our Chihuahua's 10th birthday and I sometimes wonder how long she'll live.

That inevitability is the worst part of keeping a dog, although having such a partner is well worth the struggles that follow it.

I was just telling my boys last night on the drive home that the difference between a dog and you wife is you can lock both of them up in the car truck overnight, and in the morning when you open that car trunk, your dog will be wagging it's tail licking you. My one boy mentioned "I sure wouldn't want to be around mom after that!".
You dog had a good master and was very blessed.
Sometimes I wonder if God meant it to be that you can't have love without a deep sense of loss.

A few years ago I was driving my dad's Ford Tauras to Arkansas from Kansas.
I had my dad's Yellow Lab with me. He's usually a good rider and slept most of the way there.
I was driving at night down the interstate and all of a sudden he decides to try to jump in the front with me and my sister. My sister was sitting in the passenger seat and was able to stop him from jumping on up front.
But he kept trying to jump up there again and if he had I would've probably wrecked the car. I was trying to gently shove him back with my right hand while zooming down the interstate.
My sister was still trying to hold him back but was failing to keep him back. so I finally had to ram my elbow into his face. "I really felt bad doing that"
He didn't growl or anything. He just laid back down in the back seat until I was able to stop 20 miles later.
I told him I was sorry I had to do that to him.
After I let him out to take a potty break I gave him a hug and he was licking me all over the face.
I could tell he knew my intentions and that I wasn't wanting to be mean and hit him.
I knew he was forgiving me for hitting him like that.
I wish I never had to hit him like that. And he knows I still love him to this day.
Every time he sees me he licks me in the face.
