Well after a mix up with the materials the barn is now officially underway. They got here about 10:30 this morning and I stopped by around lunch.

Dimensions are 30' x 40' x 12' tall.

Here is when they were just setup and getting started:

And this is what it looked like at 6:00 tonight:

There are a few more pictures in this directory - http://padens.com/files/tractor/barn/

If anyone has anything specific they want me to take pictures of let me know.

Looking good, who's doing the building?

Just a local guy. All he does is put up metal buildings. There were 2 guys on site to get all that work done. Both welding away. He gets the raw steel and cuts it to size and welds it on the site. He came pretty highly recommended and his prices can't be beat. $13,360 turn key with a 16' x 10' garage door, a 3' people door and a 3'x4' window.

The center posts and the center rafter is 8" I beams. The rest is 8" C Purlin. The C Purlin seems pretty thin but the frame is pretty sturdy already without any tin on it.

Nathan,

Congrats!!

Looks like your gonna have quite the building there. They'll be done in a few days and then what's the plan? Are you going to finish it off real nice, or leave it rough?

They had everything done except for some trim and the back window yesterday and finished that today. The contractor uses overhead door company to put in the garage door and they should be by tomorrow to put in the door and opener.

Here are some pics:

I've mentioned a couple times that they just use raw steel and weld it together. They even weld their own brackets.

Lots more pictures in this directory if you are interested. I labled most of the pictures with decriptions.

Overall I'm really happy with the end result. Seems very solid and lots of options ahead of me.

Nathan,
That's a beauty! Lots of room and super clean job. Sure didn't take them long once they got going...
Great pictures too.

Nathan,

The barn looks great and I'm looking forward to seeing the door installed. Nothing like being able to close it and have all your equipment locked away nice and safe. Dry is nice too.

The small tree at the front worries me. Will it grow into a big tree? If not, it looks nice, but if it will grow into a big one, I'd take it out now. Too many problems down the road come from trees close to buildings to keep it.
