Barn Kits?

Ok, I want to make a 40 x 60 barn, gambrel roof, with a nice attic space for a future woodshop.

I do not like pole barns, as eventually I want drywall & insulation. I plan to have in-floor heat zones in the concrete slab.

I would not drywall & insulate right away, but would do that at a later date. I have "filled" in pole barns before with studs to hang drywall a few times. I'm not interested in that type of construction.

Are there any metal barn kits that would suit my needs?

I know this forum seems to be pole barn central, so I'm interested in hearing the thoughts of those who have been there, done that, etc.

It sounds like you're looking for pole barn that isn't a pole barn. Getting a 40' width attic gambrel is going to be the hard part.

If it were me I would be contacting local contractors that build barn/pole buildings and ask them for examples. I know I'm looking at 32'x48' with attic gambrel roof, and the trusses had to be special design to meet my needs.

Hmm, maybe 40ft is a bit unrealistic...

It all depends on how they are made and how large of an area you want on the 2nd floor. My barn has 80' clear span wood trusses and the company says they can do 120' clear span wood trusses. Of course the zone (snow load) and wanting to put in a drywall ceiling will have a huge impact on the project. My guess is that wanting to go with 5/8" drywall ceiling with a properly rated snow load bearing surface will make wood trusses out of the question. Then your steel trusses will likely make wood posts out of the question for side walls. From what you're describing, it sounds like you're going to have to go with a steel building.
