Barn on hold

YIKES!

I hope no family members, human or otherwise got hurt. I've seen the aftermath of some Tornados and they scare the heck out of me. When we build a house we will have a storm cellar to hide when things get nasty. I have lived through more bad hurricanes since moving to NC from FL in the early 90s. I am SCARED of high winds and big trees. I have seen to many fall through a house...... /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Wish I was closer, we could have a Tractor Day To Fix Up CowBoyDocs Place. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Good Luck!

Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the messages. The girls and I had just gotten home when it happened. It was there and gone in just a few seconds. It was raining really hard and then rain started going sideways. Then everything just stopped and for a few seconds there was nothing and then loud crashing and the house shook and then it was rain again. Looked out and saw the funnel headed out and all the damage. Lost one calf was all so pretty lucky. I've got guys over there cleaning it all up and one of my friends who is a contractor is getting the house fixed up as I type here. I'm leaving early today to go home and help. A bunch of the farmers from the area are there helping as well with all the trees. Ours and one other was the only house that it hit in the country and then touched down again in town and hit about 10 houses in town. We've had reporters and everyone calling at the house. Glad I went ahead and came to work today, wife is home handling all that. I'll keep you informed and thanks again for the kind words from everyone.

Richard

Sorry about that! But look on the good side. Should be awhile before another drops down on you.[grin]

Took shelter from a twister under an interstate overpass. Pulled to the shoulder and hunkered down in the car. Visib. was nil due wind and rain.

After a lot shaking and shuddering the storm and twister passed. My car had been pushed across two lanes out from under the overpass and into the median strip.

Glad all is well with folks, animals and tractor.

Hope all is well and that the kids weren't too scared by it all. We had a tornado go through here around 7 years ago. Not too much property damage in the area apart from one steel barn that went missing and just left a concrete pad behind. They found it in the woods a couple of miles away after the police did an aerial search for it. A few chuckles over that one. The lasting damage was for some of the neighbor kids - they are now terrified of thunderstorms. There was a good swath cut through some other woods right in the same area where the funnel touched down there too.

Best of luck with the cleanup - sounds like you have good neighbors.

We are all pullin' for ya in the cleanup effort. My biggest regret is we can't be there to help!. Stay well, our prayers are with you and your family to get through this. Best of luck!

Sorry you got hit Richard. I've lived in and around "Tornado Alley" most of my life, but am still amazed each time I see the damage caused by a twister. I had an F4 pass 1/2 mile from my house a few years ago, just the other side of a ridge that ran behind my house. That single storm system killed 38 across the state. 10 that died lived less than 2 miles from me to the East, and 2 were killed a couple of miles to the West of me. I didn't even have debris on my property. They're a strange phenomena of nature.

We had a line of storms through here last night. Luckily... no twisters. But we had straight line winds of 70mph and lots of hard rain. Wind took the top off my kennels and laid my corn rows down, but that was about the extent of it.

Hope you get everything back to normal soon.

Everyone seems to have a tornado story, and I am no different, but I will defer until another time. I'm just very happy that only property was damaged and you, your wife, and children escaped safely. We will all be hoping that you get your property repaired/replaced soon.

sorry to hear about the damage, Richard ... but I'm glad you're ok. I've been too close to 2 big ones myself and I know how much damage they can do.

too bad that common sense ain't

Well we're about back to normal. The bay window is supposed to be in today and roof is fixed. Finished the cleanup and fixing the barn this weekend. Had a bunch of neighbors that helped out and made it a quick process. One guy brought over a shredder and that took care of the branches and gave me a nice load of sawdust for the stalls. All in all it's worked out just fine and should be able to start back on the barn this wednesday. Thanks again for all the kind words and support.

Good neighbors are invaluable, aren't they, Richard? Glad to hear everything's OK.
