It seems animals can fill a space in our lives that other humans can't. I'm not sure if it's about being part of the broader spectrum of life on this planet or what.
I can say there are many times I'd rather spend time with animals rather than humans.... I'm sorry for your loss and I hope you can take comfort in knowing you provided a wonderful life for this horse and in the end provided the mercy of a passing far easier and kinder than nature would have allowed.

Like loosing an adopted family member! Unfortunately the meds, vet's, special feed are part of the deal, just as for our kids. Price we pay for companionship. Appears she had 17 years of great care, wish you luck!

Actually, she had she had at least 24.5 years of great care. My wife got her at about 2.5 years of age. I should have mentioned that she was a "desert bred" Arabian meaning that there was no Polish or other country bloodlines in her. The Arabian breed lives to be 30 years on avearage. The breed being hot blooded (highly spirited) is not for everyone. When she ran, her tail curled up over her back. She was easy to manage and loved people and attention.
