Thanks for the tips and words of encouragement guys. I got all the corner bead up yesterday and pulled the dead-end screws out. I love it when my calculations work out... I figured 18 pieces of corner bead, truly a walking around estimate. Got to the big box yesterday, complete with holiday crowd and picked up what I needed. The cashier counted my corners at 19. I said, "go ahead, I'll surely need one more". Finished up with exactly one left!

I have a cheap tape banjo that does a remarkably good job if the mud is thin enough. My scaffold is out on loan, due back today I hope. Guy doesn't have a truck though, so I'll have to make the run just to get it. I'm wishing I had some stilts, maybe I'll check into renting.

Stay tuned for more pics /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Here's the progress of the day. I got all the flats and corners taped below ceiling level. A couple of low ceilings I could reach so they got it too. Went through one 500 foot roll of tape plus a partial I had.

Took #2 son to lunch and checked a couple of rental places for stilts. No go. I'll either check with a specialty place or do without. Got home and my bud called for me to pick up my scaffold so that will be the ticket.

Tomorrow I'll finish the taping including the 45 degree walls. I like a product called stait-flex for those corners. It's tape that must have a thin metal layer. It holds a crease and keeps odd angles straight. I'll also get a first coat on the corner bead. That should be enough for a day /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well, it was a successful weekend. I got the corner bead on, all the joints taped and the corner bead mudded in. Here's a shot looking over the bar. My workshop door is to the right and the bathroom door is to the left /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

And here's my shop, looking towards where my workbench will eventually sit. I hope the next coats will be a little faster without the tape and corner bead to worry about. That will have to wait until next weekend I'm afraid /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

A friend of mine recently used an Idea I saw somewhere years ago. Take an old pair of shoes and screw them to two empty five gallon buckets. You may have to put a board in between for some grip for the screws.

You have to be careful where you step and climbing stairs is out of the question but they are cheap to make.

Scott, I LOVE that idea! Thanks. I believe I'll be on my own stilts next weekend /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Was that a martini in the first picture of this latest batch?

Hey, after 144 feet of corner bead, 700 feet of tape and 15 gallons of joint compound I felt like I deserved it. Right now my back is reminding me of it all /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

OK, just so no one thinks I'm slacking off on a dreary pre-winter day here's the progress. I won't bore you with too many pictures. For those who have been involved in drywall finishing, the in-between pictures aren't very exciting. Today I got most of the second coat on. Started with the tapered joints, then the inside/vertical corners, then the inside/horizontal corners, then the buttt joints (few), then the outside corners. I have an our or so to finish tomorrow on outside corners, all horizontal. Oh yeah, somewhere in there I did the screw heads in the fields.

This pic is the doorway into the half bath in the bar area. The shadow on the wall is from my halogen lamp visible in the next picture /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
