Or the billions he is saving US Tax payer in our space and renewalable energy efforts.

Sorry, the govt is funding that. How is that saving money?

Of course, that Saturn V rocket was designed by 1500 or so, German scientists we stole. :)

Yea - should have known, von Braun and the other German scientists swept up under Project Paperclip would come up if I posted that

Of course the other 400000 or so people that made it all possible deserve some credit to- including the American taxpayers.

I suspect that they needed little or no persuasion to come to the U.S. vs staying behind in Soviet controlled East Germany...

I cannot speak to the Tesla side of things but on the SpaceX side, here is an off the cuff breakdown.
The Falcon9 launch vehicle is funded all by SpaceX
The Cargo Dragon ISS resupply vehicle is funded partly by the government, partly by SpaceX
The Crew Dragon is funded (purchased) mostly by the government, partly by SpaceX (overruns).
The BFR launch vehicle is funded all by SpaceX
The Falcon Heavy launch vehicle is funded all by SpaceX

Bottom line is that yes, the government has funded some of SpaceX development; but if the same projects were to go the route of traditional NASA funding and legacy space manufacturers, the costs to taxpayers would much greater. Witness the SLS.

"The billionaire SpaceX and Tesla boss is known for setting outlandish goals (and sometimes missing them)."

IMHO, that is putting it quite kindly. It would be more accurate to say that he usually misses his goals.

I also think the 1AM meeting might be an indicator as to why he is consistently missing his goals. Why wouldn't he be aware of whether or not his own company is running 24/7 well ahead of the planned period? I realize he has a lot of things going on, but he still should have a status update and planning process to deal with this sort of thing, instead of going on a manic binge in the middle of the night.

He's certainly good at marketing. He has been selling the "full self-driving capability" option on his vehicles for quite a few years now, and it doesn't even exist. Lord knows when/if the customers will get legitimate functionality for the money they paid.

You sound like you do not know many facts about Elon Musk or what he is doing for the people of the world perhaps?

I was the same as you last summer. The Elon Musk 2015 book by Ashlee Vance helped me to get up to speed on the man. People that will work 100 hour weeks to make their outlandish goals become reality are not something we see every day but was more common a 100 years ago. He is saving us a lot of money on the space program over his competition.

I will note that you quoted my post as if you were responding to it, but you didn't address any point that I made. Do you agree or disagree with the specific things I said, and why?

What goals are you talking about he is not achieving?

He has shown the world how to make EV's a reality. He has shown the world how they do not need diesel peaker generators as much as is used today. He has shown the world that a man outside NASA can build a rocket from scratch and can spend supplies to the ISS.

Perhaps you are not a software developer and do not understand how software people see deadlines. Most insiders know like the cost of a building estimate needs to be 2 or 3x more than first thought. :)

Elon Musk is not on the way to becoming perhaps the worlds richest man because he is the most intelligent man ever to walk the face of the earth. If that does happen it will because he was able to see the future and lead the masses to that future. People follow leaders taking them where they want to go and not people who even on a clear day can not see anything but darkness.

I was referring to the many times that he stated that he would deliver product XYZ at a specific date.

I'm willing to discuss the related things you bring up, but I would like to first confirm whether or not we are communicating. As such, do you agree or disagree with the specific things I said in post #1095, and why?
