I was thinking the hydrogen would be produced during the day with excess solar generation. Then it could be used at night to generate off peak electricity. Not effecient, I know, but a way to "store" energy.

Sounds like the cost of refining has gone up over the years and it is a threshold which production has to be so high to keep from operating at a loss.

Our knee jerk reactions speeding up and slowing down speeding up and slowing down during the pandemic just has the world confused but hopefully that will sort itself out soon based on the news I'm hearing medically speaking.

The world demand for fossil fuel is increasing and will for the next decade or two at minimum so we're going to have to stop shutting down the energy industry in the meantime.

If it is decided there's a problem with the article it can just be deleted as well as your post and we'll go back to where we were.

I can see that but am also of the impression that we export a lot of oil as well. Wouldnt they just export more to compensate or are the exports being cut back because offshore countries didnt buy as much???

I was under the impression that domestic production slows down as the price drops, due to higher costs. I always have heard that North Dakota oil is a money losing endeavor when crude is under $80 per barrel.
