Is not a recall, it is an OTA software update.

Tesla calls “cruise control” “autopilot”.
Complete bs....all major news services and car industry pundits call this a recall and a major slap on the wrist for Tesla . The new software drop / recall will require engineering rethink and significant market approach rethink. And so it should.

Thankfully with effort I can still squeeze a range of one mile out of our 100K+ 2015 Prius C in EV only mode .

If discounted enough and the gas engine sings like as sewing machine this could be an EV starter vehicle for some that have a screwdriver and know how to use it safely.

We will be sending the C back with the daughter along with the F-150 towing a 6x12 Uhaul which we will swap out with a car hauling trailer to bring back her non starting 2004 high mileage CRV so we can replace several normal failure parts over the holidays as well as new tires. A local lawyers wife drove it for 18 years and was garage kept and oil changed every 3K miles.

That's hilarious Gale. It seems Kia and Hyundai have EV's along with several other companies that are getting better reviews than their Tesla counterparts.
What does a "reviewer" really know after spending a week with a car?

Reviewers write for quick clicks, not posterity.

...so now it is a newsworthy "recall".

Clickbaiters have been using this claim for the past 10 years of Tesla OTA updates.

Did Tesla forget to pay off Edmunds? Their best showing is 3rd in several SUV segments.

Funny they stuck the long range Y in the Luxury group that starts around 70K, but left it out of the AWD group that it was still less expensive than many of those competitors.

Edmonds rating system can't change the fact that Tesla outsold all other EV makers by a 10 to 1 margin.

Well, maybe the $50k Model Y is comparable to the $70k class?

I have done my part in making the Y a best seller.

So what? It is on a government checklist. Government is claiming credit so now it is a newsworthy "recall".

Clickbaiters have been using this claim for the past 10 years of Tesla OTA updates. Tesla fixes many things but some the government claims credit to justify their existence.
No amount of spin will change the fact that Tesla initiated a recall on 2 million vehicles due to safety issues with Autopilot. The recall was initiated by the 736 crashes and 17 fatalities that have occurred since 2019 involving Tesla’s Autopilot system, including 16 crashes where a Tesla hit an emergency vehicle. Tesla initiated the recall in response to NHSTA investigating problems with Autopilot. Looks like Tesla is in damage control mode, take away Autopilot and FSD and all you have is an overpriced EV.

"This letter serves to acknowledge Tesla, Inc.'s notification to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of a safety recall".

Fed’s deadline comes and goes without Tesla’s reply to Autopilot questions

Something from today:

Tesla said it did not agree with NHTSA's analysis but would deploy an over-the-air software update that will "incorporate additional controls and alerts to those already existing on affected vehicles to further encourage the driver to adhere to their continuous driving responsibility whenever Autosteer is engaged."

It has been reported that the recall update has been incorporated into New Tesla's delivered since December 7th from a new delivery:

1 FSD beta style lockout. After 5 disengagements for not addressing nags, you cannot use Autosteer for some period of time

2 More nags, both to pay attention to the road and to keep your hands on the wheel. You have to look at the screen to know what it wants you to do. Sometimes the nags are instant when you engage Autosteer. For example, if you engage Autosteer while looking at the screen you get instant beeps.

3 More prominent nags on the screen. They now show at the top of the visualization initially instead of the bottom.

4 Option/setting for simplified Autosteer engagement with single pull

5 If single pull is enabled, it also simplifies disengagement by no longer switching you to TACC if you disengage by turning the wheel

6 Thankfully I haven’t yet noticed any difference on where it allows Autosteer to be engaged, though I haven’t done a ton of testing

This is not fully confirmed.

Also reported : If Tesla has not come up with a passible update they can Not deliver new cars to buyers.

Will be interested to know what software Grumpy Cats Model Y is running when he takes delivery.
