Battery not staying charged

What do your volt/ohm meter readings tell you?

These tractors are way simpler than a car, even an older Probe. You could run all new wires and almost be faster than trying to find a problem. But honsestly i think i would just install a batery disconnect if you use it say 6 times a year. Just pull hood and connect it back.

You can get those on Ebay, amazon or any store like advance auto part or autozone.

True enough, BUT you have to remember most people have more experience handling venomous reptiles than voltmeters, which is to say none. It is not taught in school you know. Unless you pick up that skill along the way in life, you are not going to know how to use either the analog or digital models nor make the deductions involving Ohm's law, or scientific method in isolation and trouble shooting. Just what do they teach in school anyway? So in general I agree with you, but how does a person gain this knowledge?. For some it is a hard road like this fellow has been down.

Are you really saying that no-one at your hunt club knows how to operate a volt/ohm meter?

I'm starting to wonder if anyone actually checked the Battery when it wouldn't start. No mention that it's has at least 12V. after it' been sitting that I recall. I've Had them go bad Quick before. I would also pull fuses and check the volts. May find it after it sat overnight.

You have me mixed up with the original poster. I have been using test equipment for about 50 years now. And trouble shooting electrical/electronic circuits. AND using the scientific method to isolate and resolve faults . I was just commenting on our educational system , and lack of coverage of such topics .:)

Alternators use diodes to rectify the output.
Could be as simple as a shot diode, but then there are all sorts of other possibilities.
Install a battery disconnect switch, About $10.00 or so.

And a New Alternator. It's going bad and won't last long if that's the problem.

Some simple checks with a voltmeter will isolate your problem. You should have done that in the first place prior to changing parts that may be good.
YES. ... Otherwise, just change the tractor.
