Battery pole confusion

Yep, I sure remember those. And oddly enough, the last vehicle on which I found left hand threads on the left side was an old Ford pickup in Anchorage in 1991. I don't remember what year model the old truck was, but I do remember trying to turn those lug nuts the wrong direction.

Most of the left hand threaded studs had an "L" stamped on the end. To me a left handed thread sticks out like a sore thumb, it just looks odd.

You can still get left hand lug nut's and studs on a vehicle. You just have to buy a tractor trailer to get them.

Do you mean a trailer for hauling a tractor behind your pickup or a semi? The lugs on my tandem trailer are all right hand thread.

I think it's a trick question. But the answers are interesting. hehe.

I thought it started when someone asked about grounding his positive ground system to the lug nuts -- should he use the right side or left side of the car since they had opposite threads.

I think the answer was that negative ground systems should be grounded to left hand thread lug nuts found on the right side of the car and positive ground systems should be grounded to right hand thread lug nuts on the left side of the car. Then we couldn't figure out what to do with cars that had all left or all right hand threads.

Then someone suggested that we get back to tractors since that's what the site is about but then he said he really didn't care since he was semi-retired and had a lot time to sit and read this stuff, which was followed by another guy asking him what kind of semi he drove before he became semi-retired.

At that point it started going downhill, but someone managed a quick downshift and it still is not out of control, but it's getting close.
