BCS 710 Clutch

Hello everyone!

I was at the scrap yard the other day when someone brought a bcs 710 tiller in. I asked him what was wrong with it and he said the engine was bad. It was in really good shape so I had to get it:thumbsup: The engine ran pretty good but was a cheap b&s 5hp and still needed more work to be a good engine, so I decided to replace it with a Honda gx200 I had laying around. When I put the engine back on it worked fine for a minute then the clutch would not disengage, I took the engine back off and found the clutch had slid closer to the engine. The set screw was tight. Is there anything to keep the clutch from sliding on the crankshaft? Maybe a bushing

Hey GMC,

Congratulations on your junkyard find! It always makes me happy to hear someone save good stuff from scrappers. I recently tried to save a bunch of David Bradley stuff from a scrapper, but he took it in anyway.

There was a short piece of pipe that slid over the shaft before you slide on the clutch. The 5hp clutch is for a 3/4 inch shaft. Larger HP engines are all 1 inch shafts.

I'll try putting a pipe or bushing on it tomorrow and let you know how it turns out.

The bcs it going great now:thumbsup: I was able to get the clutch adjusted to work with it all the way back on the crankshaft. Now I have a good running bcs with under $150 in it. Thanks for the help, Philip.
