Well I'm not going to be the first to click on your link. I'll wait for someone to talk about it.

It's a legit link...I went there...no worries...it is a news story from CBSDenver.com explaining a phone scam to gain access to your computer.

Thanks TexasJohn. Usually TBN's forum software translates links into people language, so I'm somewhat surprised it didn't.

I love technology...when it works.

I was worried at first but saw it was from a safe source :)

The lady said "they took over" her machine, but I don't think it was a remote access. More likely they just directed her to an infected site, and were trying to get her to give up credit card info for payment.

There's a very good chance they were hacking the hackers, using some other scums hack site to there own advantage. Pretty smart of them, no overhead, software development etc.

JB.

They took over my friend's PC as the turd removed icons from their desktop and messed around with other settings.

So in addition to snooping on the machine, they were trying hard to "sell" unneeded "services" to get them to give out their credit card number. Also keeping them on the phone as long as possible give the scum more time to snoop on the PC.

I wont post my original comment.

Just be safe, AND SMART out there. Especially on the internet.

/Phone call from "Microsoft Security" ...Really???

I've had about 5 calls. The first one I simply used an expletive to tell them what he could do. Later ones I act ignorant but busy but still interested in the "problem". I am unable to get to the computer at this time. This wastes their time.

The next time I will have to start the PC( very slow), but I am sure I will have network issues.

As most of you know, the latest Microsoft operating systems have a provision for remote access and control.
This is great at a company with an intranet...especially if the company has remote locations.
The intent is to allow an IT specialist to correct computer problems (remotely, of course). I had this at a previous employer and it worked great to fix a problem with my work PC.
Of course, there is a dark side. Since many folks aren't computer gurus, it's not difficult to be bamboozled and unknowingly allow remote access and control.
Bottom line: Trust no one...
