I had a soft one on the Dodge but I think I would like a locking one on the Ford. Any TBNers got or know someone that had one of these Fold-a-covers? Seems less moving parts to go bad (and cheeper than the roll up type)

I've had a fold-a-cover on my Silverado 1500 (6.5 foot bed) for 2 years. I am quite happy with it. Folds up nice and easy. I've only taken it off once when I had a full load of stuff. Most of the time, I just fold it back and that's sufficient. Well made, an hour to install. I like the fact that I can fold one panel back from the tailgate for general small items like dog food bags and general hardware, and I can fold the one panel back from the front to get to the tools and bunges and flares and all that. I am a happy customer.

No drilling at all. It clamps on the bedrail.
It is not advertised as water proof, but last summer I drove from Chicago to Arlington, Va through amazing downpours almost all the way. What a dreadful trip. But the bed was dry.
Mine is installed over a Line-X spray on liner which may yeild a better seal, but I doubt it. I think they just don't want to make claims for a product that is instaled by the customer.

What is the material used in the Fold-a-cover? The reason I ask is security from "slashers." When I lived in urban CT, that was a significant problem with all soft type covers. For that reason, I had a lid on my Sonoma, but I have to say it was pretty inconvenient in that particular bed size. Seemed like the things I hauled were just a little too big to close the lid all the way /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif, and I was forever jury rigging tie downs to hold the partially closed lid down against the cargo. In my current truck, a Tacoma, I have a cap, and that has worked out pretty well, again for that bed size. We're planning to up-size to a 3/4 ton, and I'd like to not have a cap on that, so the folding unit has appeal to us.
