Just purchased a new pickup. Looking for a new bed liner... any recommendations? I want something I can "slide" things in. I often carry heavy steal. Not sure about spray on.

There are two styles of spray on bed liners. One is very thin and very hard and you cannot compress it at all with your hand or a tool in your hand. The other is much thicker and softer and if you press hard with a tool, you will see it deflect a little. The thicker syle is about 3 times thicker.

Both will prevent items from sliding, but the soft version would probably be even better at preventing sliding.

I have never heard of anyone doing it themself with a $50 kit and being happy with the results. Spray in liners are something best done by a pro.

A one piece plastic drop in bed liner will let things slide around more than the spray in types.

I have had Line-X in my pickup for three years. No problems at all with it.

I had Rhino lining installed about 1 1/2 yrs ago in a new truck. I have carried many loads of gravel in the bed and it shows no wear, but I also use a Load Handler. When I had it done you had a choice of going over the lip or just doing the inside of the bed. I chose over because the lip usually takes a beating from throwing things into the bed. They did an excellent job installing and I am very pleased with it. There are a couple of choices of texture, and you can get it in colors, but with a black truck I just used black and the std. texture. It was a little more money than the Line-X, around $500 if I remember correctly, but this is CT:rolleyes:.

Are you leasing? If so, check to make sure you can spray a lining in. GM says no.

GaryE:

Removable bedliners tend to trap debris and water which encourages rust and rot. Just remove the liner periodically and there should be no problems. Jay

Gary, I like the spray in liners the best. And gordon21 gave a good summary of the differences. However, I have sprayed in the thin hard type of liner and found other uses for it as well and am very happy with the results. I've used the bed liner in pick up beds, as a waterproof undercoating and sealer for my snowcat, as a non-slip coating for a floor, etc. It can also be used for all sorts of things to act as a protector, or as a non-skid material, or both.

I have had two slide in liners in my last two trucks. Next truck will be a spray on. Slide in allows anything in the bed to slide like it was on ice. Plus, the 3/4 inch deep ribs in on the floor tear up my kneecaps when I have to get into the bed. I have a cap on it so standing up is not an option. I've only heard good things about the spray on and they are about the same price as the slide in.
