Bees kill 23 yr old in Lagrange Texas

When I worked in the oil field, we used CRC Wasp and Hornet Killer II. I never tried it on bees, but I see they have a BeeBlast product now that probably works on bees. It comes in a can similar to a can of Raid, but it has a 20 foot reach. Many times I killed a whole nest of wasps from over 15 feet away. I never had a wasp fly away after it was hit with that stuff. Even if I didn't get a direct hit, every one droped out of the nest and was dead by the time it hit the ground.

Kyle, what is it with the bees around here? Last month one of our friends went to transfer a hive out of a persons house, got stung a few times, and died. The community is still in shock over his death.

Don, I remember reading about this. He was helping remove a nest, got stung on the hands and wrists maybe 10-15 times and had an allergic reaction. I'm sorry. I was wondering if you knew him. Wasn't he on the VFD? I wonder if taking a decent dose of Benedryl will help someone with an allergic reaction???

Man, I'm sure wishing I could afford a cab. Seems funny people pay all sorts of money to stay alive (including life insurance in case they die) but yet, we cut costs in other places to be able to afford to live. One thing I won't cut cost on is tires for my vehicles. Always buy good tires if you can. The little baby riding in the tire for the Michelin commercial is true.

Just need to figure out where I can dig up $7K for a cab.

Kyle, yes he was a key person in the VFD. He was a bee keeper and he was wearing a protective suit. I guess what Harvey said might have happened.

benedryl....especially in liquid form goes a long way to stopping adverse allergic reaction to bee stings. but it has to be ingested very soon after being stung. i say liquid because it gets into the blood stream quicker.

txdon,
That is really sad and what a sad way to go. My condolences to his family.

If you have bad reactions to bee stings.. get your doctor to prescribe an epi-pen.

Folks, almost every attack I hear of involves mowing. But not always. My buddy has been trying to kill a couple of nests near his place south of Victoria. They keep stinging his family and dogs once or twice a week. He resorted to mounting an electric sprayer to his hay spike on his big tractor. Jamming it into the nest and spraying. Seems that all the bees that flew off are still alive. He doesn't want to pay $200 to have a bee keeper come to collect it.

Kyle, I'm a bee lover and a people lover. $200 to collect and preserve a hive of bees is just not that much money. Tell your buddy that you have a "crazy" guy on TBN who will pay half of that $200 dollar fee to a bee keeper. I'd gladly donate $100 to save some bees and maybe save some lives. Pokin' an old rotten cottonwood with a bale spear is likely to get him killed from a flalling tree. Surely, there is a better way. If it only costs $200. I'm onboard to foot half the bill.:)

...I'm serious...and a little crazy.

Usually every year we get an infestation of cicada killers, the giant wasps that dig a gopher mound in your yard. I've hit them before full on with the wasp and hornet killer and they just shake it off and continue flying. They are tough as nails. Interestingly, a State of Iowa Entomologist told me the sting and venom of a velvet ant (wingless wasp that looks like a carpenter ant on steroids and with orange fur) is about as bad as it gets as far as a bee or wasp is concerns. Now we have velvet ants also. :(

Ditto on the velvet ant....never seen one, but have been told the sting is painful beyond expression. It's my understanding cicada killers rarely, if ever, sting people. We have an abundance of them some years, and I have been close to them many times, but never found them even remotely aggressive. Bald face hornets in trees, and their variant that nests in the ground are my nemeses. Wicked disposition, wicked sting, and they so believe in group attack.

It's been several years since I've used the wasp and hornet killer, but there were two versions out at the time: "Wasp and Hornet Killer", and "Wasp and Hornet Killer II". The "Wasp and Hornet Killer" didn't work much better than Raid, but the "Wasp and Hornet Killer II" was a whole different story. That stuff worked really well....on wasps anyway. I can't find the "Wasp and Hornet Killer II" on the CRC website, so it may have been replaced with a more environmentally friendly version.
