Do you know anyone with a box blade? It makes the job much easier because you can change the side to side pitch.. (depending on your 3pt setup) and you are making the cut behind the tractor, so you're not driving in and out of the holes. You can also raise and lower the box as you move along. But, it too takes some seat time to get the knack for it.

I tried to dig it about 4" deep, making multiple light passes just skimming the top, but the right side of the bucket kept catching and digging in more than the left

Let some air out of the front left tire /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Or tie a weight in the left side of the bucket

He has a Power Trac. Even though I'm grossly ignorant on the Power Trac products, I don't think my 3 point implements will work for him. If it fits, he's more than welcome to drive around the corner to borrow it.

Ah! Sorry.. didn't check his bio.. and .. I'll have to admit.. I was unfamiliar with the Power Trac until saw your note and did a "google" image search.. cool machine!

Andy, Thanks for the offer! Your right though, 3-PT attachments don't work on a PT... at least not without crafting an adapter of sorts to the PTs quick attach system. I do have a PT tiller though so that is probably the best option for me.

Jibber, Thanks for the compliment. If you ever get a chance to try one out you should. They are not for everyone, for instance they sit too low for agricultural use, but for many tasks they work quite nicely. If your curious at all there's a thread on the Power-Trac forum of PT members listed by state. Most I know love to show the machines off so feel free to contact. (Not trying to be "salesy" I just always enjoying seeing different toys..er.. tools myself.) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Does that offer apply to folks in the immediate area? /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Of course Andy! Not sure how often you come this way down 18 but you can stop anytime you see me out or if you want we can schedule something. Actually, I'm getting 15 ton of slag delivered tomorrow morning and will be tilling a little, moving and leveling the slag and hopefully getting a little mowing in this weekend. Should be plenty of time to see it in action if your out this way! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

For a beginner digging in sod and trying for level may just be the worst possible senerio to start the learning curve.

Try and find an area with loose dirt and start practicing. Use very light cuts and work from there.

Never overload the tractors ability to cut and maintain traction.

Thanks Egon! I'm about to go out and do some work right now so I'll keep your advice in mind... Hmmm, find an area to practice in... I can tell the wife "I'm not out goofing off I'm following wise advice from TBN!"

( but the right side of the bucket kept catching and digging in more than the left. Since there is no side to side leveling of a bucket my rig`t tires would go into the low spot causing the bucket to dig in even deeper on that side!

The tractor will follow the contour of the ground.
Where the tiller comes is you can change the contour with it.
