I'm sorry but I find that article a little BS. We run 8000 series JDs and most things we work on ourselves no need to hack the computer. And if there is something we can't fix the dealer is out ASAP if it's during planting or harvest. For the most part they have been trouble free. We only have one with DPF and you don't even know when it's in regen unless you notice the icon on the display. Sorry you're having trouble with your tractor and hope you get it working right soon.

Your obviously in a more dense populated area that can get fast service. Neighbor had his 9360 sit in the field for a week where it quit. Went down on a Saturday Afternoon, Dealer got their Tuesday and futzed with it for 2 days. Ended up a regional mechanic of some sort flew in and found some $50 sensor gone bad. Farmer ended up planting right around it with his old 9020 as he was up against weather. ANY Mechanic or farmer should be able to access a computer to troubleshoot on something they spent their hard earned money on. Looks like this issue may have been addressed last fall now..... Dense population. No I don't think you would call farm country in Iowa densely populated. If you buy a tractor well north of 200k you expect prompt service if it goes down. If the dealers around here left any farmer down for a week without a loaner tractor as good or better than theirs they would not be in business long.

George, You read this last year? Can't even work on your own John Deere anymore. Your stuck waiting on the **** dealer....... DIY Tractor Repair Runs Afoul Of Copyright Law : All Tech Considered : NPR

Yes, I did read this but we don't have access to the program(s) to allow us to diagnose or repair the electronics on our tractors. There are a few units online but pricing puts them out of a homeowners reach plus not all brands of tractors are covered (at least LS isn't on the list yet).

For vehicles (cars and trucks) we can buy programmers / tuners to reprogram the ECU for better performance, towing, mileage etc. through the OBD II port. I had one on a previous diesel truck that improved the towing, performance as well as increasing the MPG. That truck went from 17 MPG highway to 21 MPG.

I now have a new Chevy Crew cab standard bed 2500HD with a 6.0L, 6 spd. auto and the mileage is terrible by my standards. I'm currently shopping for a programmer that will boost my MPG. I do have an Autel MaxiCheck Pro scanner for diagnostics and it covers most vehicles (not tractors) but its not a programmer.

Check out 5 Star Tuning. I run one in my 2011 F260 with the 6.2 Big Block gasser. Really improved the shifting and MPG's came up a bit too.....

Sorry, I know this is a tangent, but did yoy add the tuner while still under warranty? Did anyone ever give you a hard time about it? I ask because I'm considering getting one.

I am near Whitefish, Montana. Their is an RDO Deere dealer in Kalispell 12 miles away. No high horsepower tractors for loaners there. Small town dealer. Next Closest dealer is 70 miles south and the next one is 125 miles south and both of them have limited inventory. Just not cost effective to keep a lot of iron on the ground with limited population. Grew up in Northern HELLinois, Wife was born in Iowa City IA. There was a Deere dealer every 10-15 miles back there....

When I had my tuner I did use it while under warranty. Just had to restore the original program before taking it in for service. Never had any issues with the dealer.

5 Star Tuning dealers are in Buffalo and Albany. Each a 3 1/2 hr ride from me being in the middle.I need a programmer where I can restore the original program myself in a matter of minutes if I need to take it in for a warranty repair or a recall.

Depends on your relationship with your dealer. My truck had 52,000 when i bought it so the warranty is long gone. Have a friend with a 2015 Diesel with a total DPF/EGR Delete and dealer looks the other way here........

Yeah lots of Deere dealers here. I guess that could be because the 7,8 and 9000 series are made in Waterloo. I'm not saying there's not issues with them all and have read your other thread and wish you the best on getting it right.

It's slim pickings up here but that's the nature of living in the wild west. I'll take it over the Midwest any day. Haven't seen a sever storm or Tornado since i left and we have very little rif-raf to deal with.......
