Your 2210 should start instantly. Just switch the starter on with the gear selector (on the HST) in a gear. Hold for a 5 count, then move the gear selector to neutral. Should start instantly, with some white smoke. This is the way I start my 4010, which starts instantly.

I've a 1983 Benz that starts instantly ALL the time. Just have to let the glow plugs do their work for 2-5 seconds in the winter time when starting cold.

There's something wrong, or compression is shot (after A HUGE number of miles/hours, like up around 300-500,000 miles), if a diesel won't start instantly. That's one thing I like about them. Had a 1972 Benz diesel with almost 200k miles that sat for 9 months, with battery stored in basement by the furnace, on 2 sets of timers to keep it charged. Came back, put battery in car, let the glow plugs glow a bit, turned to start: immediate start. This just doesn't happen with gasoline engines left to sit for a spell.

DJLX,

I was thinking the same thing as Ralph; are you using the cold start system/method he described? For whatever reason it is not covered in the owners manual. As you use it (my dealer said up to 20 sec. depending on the temperature) you will see the idiot lights dim so you know current is being drawn. The tractor should start immediately.

Guys- I was comparing to the X585 which is fuel injection and does start quicker than the 2210. I have tried the glow plug trick and yes I notice the difference but the temps in this area are in the 50-60s so it is not cold. The 2210 still takes a couple of sec to start and blows a second or 2 of smoke.

MMM is easier to remove than 585 I found.

What is it about the 2210 that makes the MMM easier to remove. I was considering a 585 over the 2210 partially because I thought it would be the other way around. I have a 4310 for loader and 3PT work, so I'm looking primarily for a great mowing machine, but I take the deck on and off a lot.

Thanks,

John

This is for taking off the deck as I haven't yet put it back on. This 54" deck is also the same deck I had on the X585. The difference that I see between the two tractors is the 2210 has spring u pins for releasing the rear of the deck as opposed to the x585 which uses a open fork with a stationary pin in the deck. With the 54" deck you rotate the wheels before you drop the deck to the ground and then once you release the pins and raise the linkage the deck rolls right out. On the X585 I had to move it a little front to back to clear the links. It always seem to come out some then I would have to shift a little. It wasn't that difficult but required sliding so really needed to be done in the garage or on a smoth surface. It is harder to explain than to actually do. Hope this helps.
Also I can remove/install the MMM with the loader on, not so with the X585.
