Your 2210 should start instantly. Just switch the starter on with the gear selector (on the HST) in a gear. Hold for a 5 count, then move the gear selector to neutral. Should start instantly, with some white smoke. This is the way I start my 4010, which starts instantly.
I've a 1983 Benz that starts instantly ALL the time. Just have to let the glow plugs do their work for 2-5 seconds in the winter time when starting cold.
There's something wrong, or compression is shot (after A HUGE number of miles/hours, like up around 300-500,000 miles), if a diesel won't start instantly. That's one thing I like about them. Had a 1972 Benz diesel with almost 200k miles that sat for 9 months, with battery stored in basement by the furnace, on 2 sets of timers to keep it charged. Came back, put battery in car, let the glow plugs glow a bit, turned to start: immediate start. This just doesn't happen with gasoline engines left to sit for a spell.
