Belly Mowing with Grand L 3X10\'s

Does anyone here belly mow with a 3010, 3410 or 3710? I just found out that the belly mowers on these tractors are incompatible with R4 tires. Seems like that would severely limit the market. But if any of you exist, I'd be interested in your evaluation of these tractors as lawn mowers.

Well It can be used wiht the R-4 tires on the 3710. BUt that is a lOT of machine to just mow. If you dont need that much drop down to the 2910 and you still have the r-4's and 72" mower

Re: Belly Mowing with Grand L 3X10\'s

I have a grand L3010 with a 72" mower deck and pillow die turfs and could have chosen a "wrangler" tire that I believe is equivalent to an R4. I have good clearance and am wondering what the restriction could be? The only downsides of my mowing setup is that the 72" deck for the Grand L series is a "really" heavy deck 470 lbs and the rear wheels do not swivel. This is the recommended Kubota deck in the literature.

Re: Belly Mowing with Grand L 3X10\'s

Bruce,

I have the 2910 with a 72" deck and am trying to figure out the differences between it and the 3X10 decks, but it's hard to find one to see. Appreciate it if I could ask a few questions.

How do you remove it? Can you drive over it to remove it?

How many attachment points are there (not counting the pto shaft). My 2910 deck has three, all spring loaded.

Can you mechanically pin the deck up when using a rear implement?

Can the deck be on when your hoe is on?

Thanks.

Re: Belly Mowing with Grand L 3X10\'s

GlennMac,

Your first question is a little embarassing as it forces me to admit I have never removed the deck as I am not scheduled to pour concrete in the bottom of my barn until this fall and with out concrete I do not think I could move the deck around. Driving over the deck was mentioned to me at the dealers but he recommended pulling it sideways from under tractor, ugh! I will check manual and update if drive over is recommended. The deck is built like a tank with flat bottom and wide steel plates covering where the front tires would cross over the deck.

Removing it is by pulling 4 pins and disconnecting 2 lift chains all fairly accessible. Dealer recommends that I use FEL to lift tractor to gain clearance on front swivel wheel posts and then pull out sideways, a friend recommended that I place a "roller plate" a steel plate with roller balls on one side, underneath the scalp roller. I plan on trying that as soon as I can locate a "roller plate" to buy.

This deck definitely is not as convenient as the "B" series decks but it is built considerably heavier.

I have dug hundreds of feet of ditches with my 3ph 4690A backhoe and moved over 50yds of dirt and another 30 yds of mulch all while the mmm was still mounted and pinned up. Pinning is a very simple and in the front of deck on both sides easy to get at and takes about 15 seconds or less per side. The bh does need to be dismounted inorder to lower the mower.

Re: Belly Mowing with Grand L 3X10\'s

Bruce, thanks. I'd be interested to know what the owners manual says about the procedure. The 2910 manual only shows driving over. If you can do that, that would eliminate the need to slide the deck at all. Except it then isnt too easy to move on the ground if you're on dirt. Can always pick the deck up with the fel of course to move it for storage.

Oh, I forgot to ask: how do you find the tractor's size and bulk as far as maneuverbility on lawns and around obstactles? And I assume you havent had any problems with the turf tires for you hoe and fel work?

Re: Belly Mowing with Grand L 3X10\'s

Manueverability has been better than expected but most of my obstacles are mulched. I really appreciate the extra weight in the 3010 as it makes loader work etc much easier. My turfs are what they refer to as "pillow die" turfs (loaded)and they have been fine for most of the work I have done but tend to fill fast in mud. This has me worried for snow as I have a curtis blade coming that will mount on my loader arms for snow plowing, I am considering investing in chains.
