The "shop" I took the tail wheel bracket to be repaired was actually a friend of mine Dad's place who has done some fabrication for me in the past. I had asked him to replace the bent piece and the round stock with the same if not heavier steel. Because they did not have these pieces in stock they were going to have to buy them which I imagine drove the cost much higher than expected. When he told me just the steel was going to be $140 dollars, I told him I could buy the part from JD for $180, he said buy it.
Ordered part from my JD Dealer for $165 plus tax. Instead of welding the retaining washer in place I drilled and tapped a 3/8" hole into the top of the shaft as shown. Not counting my time I have just under $180 in the repair.
