Bent output shaft on MX5 Cutter

The gearbox was made in Spain. They also changed the stumpjumper design by adding 2 cross supports.

The hawkline international 5' weights 585 lbs and the MX5 weights 832 lbs. If I recall TSC's weight's less than the hawkline. But I guess it doesn't matter what it weights if the gearbox is faulty.

Enjoy the MX6!

They have a misprint in the book, it says 677 lbs on the starter 5 ft for weight. So the 5 ft HD would be a lot heavier. I heard they may have been bought out by Welcome to Behlen Country | Behlen Country They are suppose to go to better manuals and specs and powder coat paint to start with. Ken Sweet

You have made my case for me, We sell the International by Hawkline and it is just as robust built as the Deere for 1/3 the money. Ken Sweet

Quick thread hijack here ... Ken, which 6' Hawkline 3ph type would be suitable for my Kubota L3940? Cost? Ship to FL?

My manual says 926 lbs max for a 6' rotary cutter.

We can't ship a rotary cutter over 48 inches. The Carriers have a NMFC class for rotary cutters and when the pallet is over 48 inches wide, the shipping about triples. Ken Sweet

My vote would be to have the machinist (assuming he is knowledgeable) atempt to straighten the shaft. Way better if the cutter works as intended. What are the chances of the machinist success, is the question?

I have seen lots of prop shafts straightened with shafts from 2" thru 8" diameter with good success holding up under comercial use for years afterward.

Well I had the stumpjumper straigthened (some) and put everything back together without doing anything to the gear box itself. With the cutter on its edge and spinning the stumpjumper I still noticed considerable up and down movement on the outer edge. To my surprise, after installing the blades and attaching to the tractor the wobble is totally gone. The fenders looked like they were going to fly off before. I've put about 2 hours on it since. Looks like I got lucky. Well almost. I chipped one of my front teeth installing the stump jumper. My wife hopes it improves my banjo picking.

Anyone know off the top of their head if the bolts on a slip clutch shaft are suppose to be torqued to a set number?

ps - The dealer initially told me the stumpjumper was suppose to tap off according to the tech manual. With no luck the dealer researched some more and found out that they had a puller. With the puller and heating for 5 minutes it finally let go.

I have a banjo. Maybe I'll be able to play it when I'm Steve Martin's age. My wife is dragging me to the World Equestrian event in Kentucky this fall. Any suggestions for hearing some bluegrass.
