Bent Stump Jumper

Thanks for the responses. I guess I will do a better inspection and then pull the stump jumper off. I really didnt have much for vibrations and thought I just bent the pan when I looked it over....but I think I need to do some wrenching. The blades and gear box seem to be good. The pan is just rubbing on the deck in one area.

I'm getting most of my trails opened up and slowly getting stump free. But every now and again....one of em jumps up and bites me. These cutters lead a ruff life.....and I have not treated this one with kid gloves.

If it's just the sheet metal part of the pan that's bent you can probably beat it back into shape.

You will always have issues with that KK. For areas with lots of small trees, old stumps and rocks a medium duty cutter would have been the far better choice. You can ask KK if the jumper from the heavier duty line will fit and
"upgrade" your current one.

(Yeah, sort of late for that advice -- sorry;))

If you have a torch, you can probably heat and beat it. Then weld additional support structure. (I'm assuming you bent the metal disc 90 degrees from the bar that holds the blades)

sine it is just rubbing the deck in one area and not all the way around the deck is what is most likely bent where the gearbox bolts on

Yep....I realize this is not the most heavy duty cutter offered.....and I picked it knowing it would be abused on this stumpy land. I bought it on sale ($550) figuring it was almost disposeable. Still....it's served me quite well.

At the time I bought the KK, I had a 790 JD tractor.....and a heavy duty cutter is simply too much weight swinging around on the back of this little tractor. Now with my 3320.....I wish for a better one.

I may need to upgrade one day....maybe when my stumps are GONE! I'm working on 'em.

Turned my cutter on its side and chained it to a tree in order to get the stump jumper off and have a better look. Got my big wrenches out and a little penetraing oil. Pulled apart fairly easy.

Upon more inspection....it seems I bent the deck frame slightly right where the gearbox sits on the deck. Bolts were loose too. The stump jumper and gear box and blades are fine. I did a little pry-bar work and got it in somewhat better shape than it was with some clearance between the stump jumper and the deck - all around.

Then I put it back to work. Nothing is rubbing and seems to operate OK again. As was said.....this cutter is a bit lite for the way I use it. Pretty good advice above from some folks that know these cutters. Thanks!

Remove the blades and jumper. Place the jumper on a flat surface. If it does not lay flat, wobbles etc. replace it. EBay is a good place to look for a new one. Count the splines and then do an eBay search. I replaced mine for under 100.00 + shipping.
