Bent tie rod.....again

I would run it as is. It can only be bent out of whack and bent back straight so many times... its the law of metal. I would either buy a new spare or get heavier wall tube and weld a couple metric nuts on the ends, so when the sad day comes you will be best prepared.

To shield the tie rod behind the axle housing is a good design. On my Kubota, (and probably most Kubotas), the tie rod is in front of the axle housing exposing it even more. I have not bent up any tie rods, (yet), mostly because I have been paranoid. That's because I kept tearing up the rubber boots on the tie rods out in the woods until I created a shield for it using a truck mud flap. I don't know why the engineers would put a tie rod exposed out in the front instead of behind the tractor axle considering the type of work they do. Another thing I have discovered is not to back up...when bush hogging or clearing debris...any more than necessary. The saplings that are knocked down by the loader while going forward will pop back up and punji stick into the belly of the tractor as you back up. I guess we need belly pans...

I know Deere offeres a "rental unit" set of shields and skid plates. Ask your dealer if they are available at the orange store.

I've bent mine twice. I just pulled it off took it back to the house, staightened it out and put it back on. However it's a lot of work and even though it's not that thick, it's pretty tough to bend by hand. The other problem I had was my workbench wasn't heavy enough. It would just move whenever I pulled. It motivated me to finally get around to mounting a vice outside by the tractor shed.

I've this vise for years, but it was too big to mount on anything I had. According to the casting it was made on Jan 2nd 1906.
