I have a small 5x10 enclosed trailer with torsion axles under it. both tires wear on the inside and I am assuming the axle is bent. I looked at the axle and it is welded on underneath. I am assuming its a 2000# rating but I could be wrong. My question is can you replace the hub part of the axle? I would not think the square tubing is bent just the outer axle that's encased in the rubber?

Any thoughts?

Thanks Brandon

I would replace the whole thing. Maybe even step up to a 3500# axle.

I have tried in the past to align a normal sprung axle, after a couple of sets of tires, I purchased a new axle.

If it make any amount of miles, it would be cheaper to replace the axle over numerous sets of tires.

here is a thread of how i did it a couple of years ago, by hooking it to a silo leg and jerking with the tractor: I allmost pulled the silo over because the pipe was rotten. http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/projects/126302-re-setting-torsion-axle.html

And here some photos of how i did it last summer: A bottle jack hung in a loop of chain, with welding clamps preventing the chain to skip off.
Both times worked out perfect, no tire wear, but only the last time i went without collateral damage.

This trailer went up and down to Germany on the very same tire you see bald on the outside here.

I used to work at a trailer shop, and from experience i can tell you 80% of the cases are caused by turning too short around a curb. the other 20% is caused by severe overloading, though its usually the tires that blow first.

I usually just take my trailers to a local alignment shop and they straighten out the tracking for me. They can even do an alignment on axles that are not welded in true. The bill is usually about $160 for a two axle trailer and I have an alignment done every time I install new tires or notice the old ones wearing poorly. 2500 lb torsion, 3500 and 6000 lb spring and 7000 lb torsion are the ones I've had aligned. It's cheaper than a set of new axles or tires.

I do the same. Go to a semi trailer repair place. Cost about the same here. Also have them spin balance your wheels. I have found bent rims this way.
