Best 3 point attachment for dragging loose wood debris??

Not to hijack the OP's thread but... Rhett, I will try the idea of loosening the tines this weekend. Sounds like it might work pretty darn well.

I think dirtworksequip mentioned earlier that the carpet in front of the tines is to keep the shrapnel sprung up from the rake under control; especially when the tines are facing forward.

Jeesh, two great ideas in just a couple of posts, gotta love this site!

A Leinbach "Yard Tool" pulverizer. They have enough built in weight to stay firmly planted on the ground when dragging trash. They really excell at finishing dirt for seeding, but will do so many other jobs, they make an great addition to anyones equipment line-up. (Best tool to grade gravel I've ever used)

Superwilly, I use my rake mainly to maintain 3000' of stone road. Snow removal and touching the road up the rest of the year when it needs it. With the rake facing frontwards the tines tend to catch pieces of stone and flip them up against either the rear of the tractor or the cab glass. Or in the case of my old JD870 open station my head. So, I got some indoor-outdoor carpet and doubled it over with the fold towards the ground. Bolted it to the rake so it hangs about 1 inch above the ground. So far its worked out great. If I were to use the rake for clean up like in your case I can roll it up out of the way and hold it in place with a couple of bungee straps.

Tip: Raise you rake slightly off the ground and stomp out the stuck sticks and roots with your feet. It's way easier than trying to remove them with your hands.

I didn't know you could move snow with a landscape rake?

I've got a long, asphalted driveway on a very steep hill so getting down to bare pavement is necessary. Problem is, the two tracks where the wheels run are lower than the middle and edges of the driveway. With a rigid blade, I can peel off the snow on the high spots but where the tires run still have 1/4 ro 1/2 an inch of snow on them. Do you think a rake would accomodate an irregular surface like that?

Its bad enough that I was thinking about getting a skidsteer rotary broom, especially now that my daughter is about to get her license.

I use my landscape rake but I removed every second tooth other than at each end. Works great as long as ground is dry. Leaves the dirt and doesn't clog.

DITTO ; for really thrashy ground take off every other tooth, clean up the bigger stuff.
if it's going to be finished further and planted to grass etc ,then come back with all the teeth and go over until you're happy with it.

If your rake doesn't flex enough to get into the lower spots , add some more weight and also try changing the angle with the top link.

jmc, you may be able to raise one of your side links to get the rake lower on one side, then angle it. That might get you down into that rut in the asphalt. You would have to make two passes. One for each rut. I doubt that a rake would flex enough to get the snow out of the rut if it were level. The rake will do a fair job on asphalt, but it will leave little raised areas of snow between the teeth. I have used mine on a paved road with the rake angled all the way to break up ice. The sharper the angle the more aggressive it is. The landscape rake really excells on stone drive ways and roads and is one of the most over looked implements for snow removal. It also has the added advantage of not plowing your stone off the road.

Although there isn't much snow on the road the rake helps pop up the stone so it doesn't get icy. Pre indoor-outdoor carpet. Proto type.

I've been looking for another reason to buy a rake but from the sounds of it, it looks like moving snow won't quite do it. Also, my asphalt is the coarse base without the top coat and that coarse gravel, now that some of the binder has worn away, look like the tines might pop them out.

Thanks Dirt and everyone for the good info. I'm at about 1000' elevation so I don't thrashed with snow but we have our fair share. I think between the debris dragging issue and Dirts great info on snowy driveway issues, the landscape rake is going to be my next attachment. Taking off every other tine make sense to make a hasty first pass, thanks for that suggestion.
