any air compressor will work... or rather should work....
i tend to use portable tank. ((fill air tank up take it to trailer, vehicle, tractor, etc...)) that is to far away to connect electrical cords / air cords to fill up a tire.)) i picked up a couple extra fittings to turn the portable tank. into an "in line tank" when needed. so i can obtain some extra gallons.
the portable tank i want to say is 7 gallon maybe 10 gallon tank. + 1 to 7 gallon tank is on the air compressor (pending on which one i am using)
when painting the house. the extra tank gallons was needed. large areas covered quickly. and then you would need to wait a little bit for air compressor to get the pressure back up. the extra tank gallons made things reasonable.
on smaller projects say painting a kids pedal bike. a small size little air compressor most likely ok.
==============
other words why it would be nice to have a higher CFM (cubic feet per minute) of air being created by the air compressor itself. having a small size air compressor. and more tank gallons can help relieve issue of not having a bigger air compressor from get go.
check craigslist.org for old air compressor motor / compressor does not have to work, just pull the stuff off and get a couple fittings, and use tank as extra storage when wanted / needed.
heck even menards / lowes / homedepot / grainger / harbor frieght / farm king / farm and fleet ... etc... every now and then have some pretty cheap prices. on air tanks / portable tanks.
============
to note it...... my requirement is small size air compressor. is to run off a 3000watt generator. meaning it is pretty much lowest handful of models most places sell as far as air compressors.
trying to drag around a 220v shop size air compressor that comes on a pallet is a no go for me.
