I致e got a Stihl chainsaw and I hate their carry cases. They are rounded and you can稚 stack anything on them, no room for tools or oil, gloves.
What do you Guys use or recommend. I just want some extra room for gloves, a little bar oil, extra chain ...
Thanks

yeah the cases suck but I love my stihl's.. one watch out is unless yours is different than my 5 Stihl saws I would be careful what you put in the case with the saw unless you drain the bar oil.. I don't have a single saw that doesn't leak bar oil.. I don't even keep them in the cases anymore they sit on a shop rag with cardboard under that both of which gets rotated out as they get to soaked to want to deal with..

I use a rubber maid tote bin. It's big enough I could probably put 2 or 3 saws in it, but usually has a 1 saw and a milk crate in it that hold wedges, hammer, files, scrench, extra bar chains, and still leaves room for bar oil, small gas can, chaps, face shield, small log chain, etc.. I can almost fit my log peevey in it if I leave the handle sticking out.

Sure it's a lot bigger than a chain saw case, but it's 1 stop grab and go. Though it can get heavy.

If I'm working in the woods for a few days I'll just leave it there, minus the chainsaw that are known to grow legs if left too long.

It's amazing how much other crap needs to go when somebody asks: "Hey can you bring you chainsaw over, I got a couple limbs/ small tress that need sawing up"

My Stihl saw goes in the Stihl case. It has room for the wrench, file, spare chain, and some wedges. I mostly carry stuff in the tractor bucket or the UTV bed. If it was bigger it would be in the way, I think.

+1 on the bar oil leaking out over time. I have a stihl case and it contains the oil. I line mine with newspaper and replace as needed. My case split at the hinges years ago and I replaced them with store bought hinges. It doesn't look so good but it works. I would buy a plastic box that will hold your saw and the oil, cut out a section for the bar, and put this in a bigger heavy duty hard plastic case you can stack stuff on and will hold your accessories.

I've got this:

Stores a 32" bar, Alaskan Mark III CSM and sundries in the top, the 088 powerhead in the bottom.
The cases cost $450 and he threw in the Stihl 088, Alaskan Mark III, bar chain and sundries for free. :)

I'm older now and don't run my saws as much but years ago when I did I really never cared for a case. Just put on a bar sleeve and kept the wrenches and files etc in a small tool box. I never felt those cases were easier to carry than the saw. Just my opinion.

Same as Turbys, Put on the sleeve and put the accessories in a 5 gal bucket..........Mike

Ill buck the trend....

i have my wood boss in the Husqvarna case. its a box with a slot for the bar cover to stick out. holds a pair of gloves, oil, extra chain, has a holder for files and wrench. easy to carry around and if the bar is off the saw, you just have a nice box that fits everything.

I keep all of my chainsaws in OEM cases, precisely because of the oil leaking issue. Otherwise I end up with an oil slick in the back of the pickup or trailer. As someone mentioned above, put an absorbent rag under the saw and change it out as needed.

Why use a case? I just put my scabard on the bar for transport or storage and leave it at that. If I'm worried about oil leaking, I set it on top of an old grain bag.

Hey, I put a smiley in!

I don't have pictures but I've a couple of scabbards that are basically just a bar length of firehose. Bar length because presently I have bars ranging from 8 inches to 42 inches, and I'm looking for a 72".

That must be photo shopped! That clean saw and even cleaner case. My cases had a lake of bar oil on the bottom. Now that the sting of paying good money for useless junk has probably passed, my Stihl cases will probably just help to start a brush pile fire.

I just keep the saws parked on their side, which seems to conserve at least some bar oil!

My Rancher leaks badly. The factory case will not contain the oil.

I plan to build a case with a drain pan.....someday...lol

I have three saws and none in a case. :ashamed: One came with a case but who knows what happened to that one... and the chain files too? Wanting to mount one of my saws on my tractor but that project seems to keep getting moved down on the priority list.

My case on my tractor is in located in two places... first is the FEL bucket... and yes I have scooped up debris and dumped my saw in the pile of dirt more than once. I don't claim to be ADD but I do switch from one task to another on the fly without thought. The other spot that is getting more attention due to the aforementioned... is nestled in the controls of my backhoe. Don't ask... it seems to work.

Nope- no photo shop.
Just a good case of being in the right place at the right time.

That saw was owned by someone (about a 40yr old guy) that that lived about 2 miles from Tyson's corner, Va. A very dense suburb. He had about a 1/4 acre lot densely wooded. The story goes that he had a black walnut tree die and he knew the lumber was valuable and he figured he could use a CSM and get some VALUABLE lumber. So he bought a new 088, Alaskan Mark II, bar etc. sometime after the 880 came out. He milled that one tree and an oak. He had a 1+ car garage that was basically stacked with stickered wood in 2 inch to 3 inch slabs that had been drying for several years. (I almost bought the wood also).
Apparently his plan had been to move to a more rural area, big barn, etc. and start woodworking. (hence the fairly nice cases)
Then the triple whammy.
The economy took a nosedive so he couldn't sell and move.
A few winters passed.
His wife wanted the #@$% garage back.

He posted it on CL one night, I saw it after it had been up for several hours and I was the third caller in line to buy it. And the first two didn't show up in time.
He had complete paperwork along with a recent bill for a tuneup. When I got there the saw was cold, so I do the full choke, pull, pull, pop, half choke, pull ROAR routine, it fired right up.

Other than a trophy I have yet to find a big tree for it. The small sub 30" DBH trees I've been removing come down fine with my 660's.

I only use a saw on an irregular basis. It could sit for months not being used. And I have half a dozen saws or so. It irks me to spend more money in bar oil to leakage than I use, by a large margin.

I hate boxes myself and give them to folks for free with saws if they want them. If not with a saw I sell them 10-20.

Best ones IMO is the orange husky box or the black poulan box just like the husky box IMO.

Now if traveling I use this to throw saws in. Have had a 066 372 5000 084 in there before with short bars or with bars off if longer.
