I just switched the wife to Spectrum Mobile as her old Verizon phone died. So far so good, it is on the Verizon network. $14/month unlimited talk/text with 1 Gb data, need to be a Spectrum internet user to get it. As the only app on her phone that she uses is the weather app, it is unlikely she will ever come close to 1Gb of data usage. If SM continues to work well for her, I will switch over after the first of the year. $28/month on Spectrum for 2 phones sure beats the $86/month I was paying before with Verizon.

I just have a cheap ($20!!) Tracphone flip phone. I really don't get all the stuff about smart phones. I have a computer at home, why do I need to check my email every 5 minutes??? Why do I need to text, I'd rather speak to someone than text them. I only have a cellphone for emergencies. I have an i-phone from work, and I hate it, only use it when I have to. It's a PIA, but I'm working remotely because of covid, so I need a work phone, just for work phone calls.

I'm with you, but we seem to be a very small minority these days. :grumpy:

Greetings,

As my last child reaches the age of 30 I have decided it is time to boot them off of my plan so I can get a simple, individual phone plan -- one without a lot of bells and whistles, and not a lot of data [like, I just want to make phone calls and use a few key aps]. Having looked around a bit, there seems to be a bewildering array of options and a subtle "catch" built in to every one of them. So I'm turning to our community of learned posters to hear what advice they might offer.

Thanks

A couple years ago, we bought AT&T phones and just bought minutes. Think it was like $100/yr for the minutes. They changed something. So, we dropped one phone and pay $100/yr for its minutes. It has a camera, but the keyboard stinks for putting any kind of text in because you often have to hit one key 3 times to get the desired letter in there. Not good for texting unless you're a good thumber. We only need for emergency and now a days sometimes to call a store when you're there so they'll come out and wait on you.

Got CaptionCall on my iPad with an additional phone # for that which CaptionCall pays for. That would be a good option if you have a cellular iPad. Ours isn't. Gotta have Wifi. Works for like Lowes that has customer Wifi outside. So, wife can take the dumb cell phone in and we can call each other if she has a question for me in the store.

CaptionCall if free if you have a hearing issues, as it has to be recommended by your audiologist. My desk phone is CaptionCall now. Get messages on it and all.

More normal than you might think. A lot of it is just inertia -- you have a family plan and its cheaper to keep the kids on, plus its a hassle to switch plans. Nonetheless, I'm striking a blow for freedom. :)
