Thanks ranchman i knew that s&w was bought by saf-t-hammer. my other problem is that they put a key lock incorporated into the gun. they are not the only ones remington , taurus and springfield to mention a few have also followed.
I don't need a gun that needs a key and i also like my guns for good looks. remington for example put a ugly looking plastic j key on the side of the bolt shroud.
i love remington 700's and now only will buy used ones. as long as i can buy barrels for actions and can find good gunsmiths i should have my old no key 700's.
i do the same with smiths.i guess if i was going to buy a new handgun now it would be a ruger( except semi auto center fire). i am looking at getting a super redhawk in 454 casull . i just have to save pennies for a while.

i guess i am getting old and set in my ways . the future generations will probably get used to the security devices that will no doubt be installed but i will stick with my old reliable one safety guns.

fyi I believe Ranchman is correct. Anyone who had any say in the incredibly short-sighted and ill-advised deal (my opinion) with the Clinton administration are no longer with the company. I've read a couple of interviews with the new owners and am convinced they are putting the company back on the right track.

I, like you it sounds, refused to buy another S&W while that mess was going on. Now I've changed my mind 'cause I think I'm allowed to do that /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
