With 20/20 hindsight, the best first tool is a serious tool box such as this Montezuma tool boxes (enter site and click on ' Montezuma Tool Boxes') that displays the various sizes ( not all piled together), shows what's missing at clean-up time and is tough. They ain't cheap, tho.

I remember my FIRST electric Drill, It was a Rockwell 4.8V, Purchased in 1977, I was living in NY City doing fire and burgular alarm installation. Best thing I ever bought. (Used mainly to drive screws) Everybody and their brother wanted to "borrow" it. I think it cost 50. (back in 77). Didn't have nearly the torque of those made today, but it saved lots of time not having to drag extension cords all over.

Good ideas all. If you go with a cordless drill and price is a factor, try Grizzly.com. All kinds of tools and you can get an 18 volt cordless drill for for 1/3 what the others cost($79.00). I have several of their tools and work them hard and could not be happier.

Well guys, I must admit I appreciate all the input. Great minds must not only think alike, but hang out at TBN!!

Over weekend, (no computer at home so I have to wait until Workday to see what's happening!)

Anyway, I thought about it and in fact, thought myself that maybe a cordless drill, 18v probably Dewalt would be a good start. I also thought about the gift certificates and may do that. I am pretty sure though that he has absolutely nothing. Probably not even a hammer. /w3tcompact/icons/crazy.gif I contemplated one of the Dewalt valu packs, but I'm not sure that the other tools might not be a bit of overkill for "Mr. Suburban Homeowner".

His Fiancee has informed me however that he DOES have duct tape! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif (I informed her she was starting to give me just a BIT too much information) /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

I'm thinking that the drill is it, I might even add in a dremel. He LOVED using my Roto-zip.
