I'm very sorry for your loss. I've had to cry more times than I care to admit at the loss of one of my fur children. The last one made me swear that I'd never do it again. A very good friend tried to give me one of his dogs. I refused to take her and explained why. He said that I should think about my selfishness at refusing to allow another dog to be my dog. I just couldn't take the heart break again and told him so.

Along comes my son with his new puppy. A year and a half later he moves to town and can't have a dog where he lives. Now my wife has a new fur baby. I'm dragging my feet but my heart is pulling me closer and closer. I'm afraid you are one of us. You may say no but when the time is right you'll lose the battle of the heart and another dog will be lucky enough to return your love. Your sorrow is a sign of your tremendous humanity. Sorry for your loss. There will always be an empty blank space in your heart, but that is there so you can fill it with all the memories of the good times you had with your buddy. As I sit here drying my keyboard, I thought about the loss of my giant schnauzer and 2 mini schnauzers 11 years ago to the dog food poisonings. I still miss them, but the memories are not gone. The hurt does get a little better. My current 2 buddies are even more spoiled, just celebrating their 11th birthdays... I'm dreading the day....

He was eleven years old and extremely active. Didn’t see this coming for several more years. Last weekend I noticed he wasn’t feeling well so took him to vet Monday. Had pneumonia and a tumor behind his right front leg that I somehow missed but I know it was fairly recent. Vet gave him some shots and me some antibiotics to give twice a day. Game plan was try to get him over the pneumonia then worry with the tumor. Thursday evening I petted him then went out a few minutes. Came back in and wife and son were with him. He stopped breathing. Ran him up to vet but was already gone. I work in a shop for my parents’ company and he went with me every day. Miss him. Before him I had a female blue heeler that also went with me every day and died at eleven years old in a tractor accident. Still have two boxers and a huge mix breed. Had Dobermans for ten years til I ran out of them. Time will tell if I get another blue heeler. Thanks for the comments as they do provide a measure of solace.

It's been 3 & 1/2 years since I had to put Booger down. 13 years of the best tractor dog ever! I still miss him.

This guy helps, but he has big paws to fill after Booger. Fritz is shaping up to be a good tractor and excavator dog, but mostly, for now, he is an undercover dog.

My condolences, Robby. I've been there a few times in the last several years and it always hurts, real bad. The pain will fade, and the memories will remain.

True and faithful friend for 15 years. Far to painful to talk about that today though. But I do share your sorrow.

You have my condolences. My buddy of 14 years went away about 3 years ago. I still miss him.
