True, however the Glock is one of the few sidearms that you must pull the trigger before you break it down.

I'm guessing Dan's point is that this is one reason why statistically speaking, negligent discharges (note: I did not say accidental discharges) may be higher with the Glock than with other sidearms.

I have a Taurus 9mm that has the same requirement, but my routine is always the same, even when I know it is not loaded: remove magazine, clear chamber, *then* begin to disassemble.

I agree with your description of both "negligent discharge" and your statement not holding the firearm responsible.

It is unfortunate that when this happens to a law enforcement officer it makes the headlines, as if LEOs are immune from such careless behaviors - although they certainly should (and do) know better.

And, as you know, I do not like that design. I don't have the brains or money of Gaston Glock, but it seems like there could be a better designed method to field strip one.

What I don't figure is why someone would point the gun at a body part when you pull the trigger. Heck, even when I KNOW there isn't a round in the chamber, I still point the gun in a safe direction before I pull the trigger.

Perhaps Mr. Glock thought the same thing?:D

...and there is - designed by John M. Browning a century ago.

I do the same thing, because in the very unlikely case that there was a round in the chamber, it would be much easier to repair a wall (and my pride) than to suffer the alternative consequences.

Nobody ever thought that maybe the chief and his wife were playing Russian roulette with his Glock. The chief's big mistake is he went first.

You've got it wrong, with a loaded semi auto, it's called Polish roulette:D

and there is - designed by John M. Browning a century ago

Come on, I've got a 1911, and my most favorite gun to shoot is my P-35 (BHP), that said, like the Glock, there is no one perfect handgun:p

just that it's stood the test of time for a simple, yet effective handgun

Methinks Glock will be around for a VERY long time with it's "original" design. Simply amazing when you think about that company (Glock) before they produced handguns.

I've got an original 1911, too - made by Colt in 1917. I didn't say it was my favorite one to shoot, just that it's stood the test of time for a simple, yet effective handgun. :D

Okay, true story, a guy here at work was teaching his son gun safety and wanted to demonstrate how an auto would not go off if you pushed back on the end of the barrel. He proceeded to push his 45 1911 into his wrist and pulled the trigger. The round went through his wrist, the kitchen wall and lodged into the next wall. You talk about a lucky SOB, the round missed every thing but soft tissue and did not hit anyone else. This guy is a scoutmaster and every two years or so I have him tell me the story and I just about die trying not to laugh. His son just graduated H.S. and he gave him the pistol.
