I have a friend that has a shortend shot gun specificly for home defence. He keeps it loaded it with two blanks, two shots, and a couple slugs in that order.

I drink, but do my best not to get sauced. From what I know of the good book, it doesn't mention not consuming, but it does talk a lot about drunks and drunkeness. The good man himself and all his disciples drank wine. Don't know if they had hard liquor back then, but they did have vino and I believe the first miracle was turning a bunch of urns of water into said vino. It was a wedding, party or something. Anyhow, a lot of the hard core religious sects will say it wasn't fermented. Well, they would have called it "juice" otherwise and not wine! So that argument doesn't hold water with me. I don't feel drinking will send you to the dark side unless it consumes you after you consume it! My .02.

I think an AR15 in a pistol type caliber is a great weapon for inside the home. On Black Friday, I picked up a Colt AR15, 9mm, 32 round capacity. I fired it recently, had some really crummy ammo that was thrown in during the purchase and also shot some CCI Blazer aluminum cased rounds that were given to me by a friend. Both were very dirty and I had a lot of misfires, partial ejects and once I had an attempted stovepipe. Really made the sight-in process terrible. But, it was free and got me on the steel. Since I didn't have anything that fired 9mm up until the AR, I didn't have any quality 9mm ammo. I've since remedied that with a large online purchase.

Here's a video of me shooting the Colt 9mm. My narration sucks and you'll have to fogive my expletives (I'm working on that). This video is after I had already sighted it in for 100 yards. I think the groups would have been better if not for the inconsistent ammo and rapid firing didn't help much either. I also wanted to note that in the video I incorrectly stated "100 meters". It should have been yards. At the end, I did a shoot at 50 yards as well. If you've got 6 minutes to kill...

I was having a chat with my solicitor once about a guy that shot another dead with a bolt action rifle . The guy is still doing time . The solicitor said he could have got him off if he had killed him with the first shot , but he had pulled the bolt back and loaded another round and shot him again . The act of reloading made it pre meditated murder , ie. he had paused and thought about what he was doing . I think with a double barrel shotgun , you could get away with jerking the trigger again but too manualy load another shot brings it into another scenerio here in OZ .

Curious if you let your dogs patrol, or go out first?

They went out first, myself behind them.

I'll never forget the time about 30 guinea hens of my neighbors walked across the pasture (my land) to my back yard. 10 at night, let the dogs out, all heck breaks loose, and by the time I get the flashlight, the only thing I see is a bazillion feathers in the air.

Could be argued that sin, even in moderation, is still sin:D

Now that we're into catholic bashing, isn't it time to close this thread?

Sincerely not sure how my comments could be construed as "catholic bashing" if what I speak of is true? For myself, I can take it or leave it. Just shows how interpretation can vary, because it's MEN who are doing the interpretating.

Got to know more of the story.. as it is.. it's vauge.

Here, in the uS.. -generally-, you can exercise deadly force in defense of your life until the threat stops.

IE.. i have a bolt action gun and you are running at me with an axe, and i shoot you, and you keep running at me with the axe, then I can load another round and shoot you again.. and again.. and again, till the threat disipates... Now.. that said.. once the perp goes down, and the threat of bodilly harm is over, to fire again would get yo in hot ( boiling ) water and would be stepping over the line.

I'm an average guy.. 5'6" 155#.. I've got no problem whatsoever with a 12ga long gun.. I shoot trap and skeet and don't have any problem staying on target for 2nd shot if needed. A small tactical pump will be a bit more.. but I have one.. a class 3 short barrelled shotgun at that.. and as said.. I can keep it on a silouette for all 3 shots in rapid succession at 'defensive' distances. A tactical regular length shotgun would be even easier to control.

Is that with magnum buckshot loads, or lower power/lighter loads? I agree you can stay on target pretty decent with a shotgun, but with virtually no recoil, you can stay on target much easier with a .223 caliber firing weapon.

If you know there's going to be a fight.. prudence would say to avoid the situation. Since you can't carry a long-arm concealed.. that leaves you with a pistol... for unforseen circumstances.

Yes, if a sidearm is all you have availible, it's probably fine. However, if you have a longarm availible, such as the case if I'm in my livingroom/bedroom area, you may as well use that. At least in my opinion.

Hmmm. I disagree with the less overpenetration argument. If you are using frangible ammunition, which is readily available online (AMMOMAN.COM d/b/a Discount Distributors) I may agree, but not with regular .223 or military type 5.56 ammo. See The Box O' Truth - Ammo Penetration Testing and you'll know what I'm talking about.

Most police departments and sheriff's offices are issuing M4's or AR15 A2 style carbines for their officer's patrol cars these days, a lot of it has to do with them being potentially outgunned in a lot of situations. I don't think it has much to do with "less overpenetration". My opinion only.

I recently shot a piece of 1/2" A-20 piece of steel (tool caliber steel) with a rockwell hardness of around 23. I used an AR15 from 100 yards and tested 3 different rounds.

1. Walmart bought, Federal .223, 50gr, Jacketed Hollow Point. - Went about 1/8" into the steel from 100 yards.

2. Military surplus, Federal XM193, 55gr, FMJ - Went about 1/4" (or half way) into the steel from 100 yards.

3. Military surplus, Federal M855, 62gr, FMJ with tungsten penetrators - The copper/lead jacket went a little over 1/4" into the 1/2" steel, but the penetrator went through it.

Try shooting it at ballistic gellatin or similar medium. I think you'd see some slightly different results.

Yes but eating isn't a sin, overeating is sloth. It isn't even the overeating thats the sin, its the act of putting food above Him. Anyways, no more religious talk from me as I could go on forever.

Already read that thread from you. No, it will be an inside dog, a family dog/companion. Just want to get to a bigger place for a dog.

I think he had stopped him but thinking , "Dead Men Tell No Lies" put another one into him . Balistics and the coroner gave evidence of the angle of penetration , ie. where the deceased was positioned at the time of the second shot etc . It all becomes a can of worms when everyone has time to think of questions to ask after the fact , and the defendant runs out of answers .

I am a big fan of GSD's. Aint never seen one retrieving a duck though... :D

Kelly would "retrieve" for me because I wanted her too. But she was doing it to humor me. You could tell she had something better to do. :D When the two Goldens came into the house and Kelly saw them "retrieve" she got a bit more into it but I still sensed that Kelly thought "retrieving" was a bit of a waste of time. There were better things to do. :D

Kelly walked across Rainbow Bridge 10/21/2008 and we are down to one dog, a Golden. She is such a retriever it is unreal. You show up at the door she brings you a gift. If she wants attention she brings a gift. :D She walks around with toys in her mouth. She simply has to retrieve. Kelly just would look at Flirt retrieving and you could see Kelly's attitude was "These goofy golden haired dogs. Don't they have anything better to do than walk around with toys in their mouth? GROW UP!" :D:D

Later,
Dan
