I have black land clay just like yours an hour north of Manor. If we ever have a gap in the rain for two weeks, the soil should be perfect for a skid steer. I think the skid steer is easier to use for a novice. But too wet or too dry and skid steer just won't work in our clay.

The best, cheapest (FREE) and easiest tool for me to clean my ditches was the telephone.

I called the county supervisor and told him I thought they needed cleaned out for better drainage. He agreed, and put me on a list. The following year a drag-line excavator and two dump trucks showed up and worked for 2 days. When they were done I ran my tiller around a bit and planted some grass seed.

Do you have to remove the material that you remove from the ditch from the site, or can you redistribute it over the road? If you can just smooth it out back on the road, then a rear blade that has tilt capabilities is what you need to buy. I say buy, because you need to stay on top of this and not let it go anymore. No aux hydraulics needed, just the right blade. I would say this one for your CK25. With the right size equipment, (much bigger than what you have)your job would take maybe on the outside 2 hours to complete, probably less.

The ditch in the picture is about the size that you say you have to clean out. If you have to haul the spoils away, that is where most of your time will be spent, but even with doing that, the offset able, tilting rear blade is the implement that you need to have to be able to easily stay on top of this.

Just my :2cents: and how I would deal with the situation. ;)

Some boards, hardware, and a mule or two.

OP here: I appreciate all of the great ideas.

Unfortunately at 14 inches of rain (and counting) for the month of May, it will be quite some time before I can even attempt to clean up the ditches.

Right now, I own 10 ac of swamp.

Several good recommendations.

As someone asked, do you have to remove the material or can you incorporate it into the roadbed?? The answer to that question changes the preferred method dramatically.

I run a township road grader and have cleaned miles of private drive ditches. If the owner wants it incorporated I try to do that best I can dependent on moisture content. If the owner wants it removed I simply windrow it and then they load it and haul it away.

Brian's suggestion about the rear angle blade would be my choice were I in your position. If you need it removed, then you haul off the windrow with your FEL. If you need it incorporated you leave the windrow lay until it properly dries, then again with the rear blade, drag it back and forth across your roadbed until it dissolves into it. Might take all Summer.

Sorry for not answering this question. I do not want the material removed from the ditches back on the road. The road is compacted road base and I want to keep any other soil or organic material from the road. I plan on either just piling it off to the side or hauling it off.

That changes my opinion
A blade is going to place it on the roadbed or roadbank. Now I'm thinkin excavator or backhoe with a truck or dump trailer to put it in, never layin it on the ground.
