Best implement to turn grassy field into garden

Got a large area I was thinking about turning into gardens for various vegetable crops. Was wondering what the easiest way of doing this as it is all currently grassy fields. I understand it's not as simple as just turning the soil and planting stuff, but more of a question of what implements would be needed. Is it as simple as getting a tiller?

You will need more than a tiller for fresh ground.I would buy a middle buster also called a potatoe plow:around $150.00 then a tiller.May be a little rough the first year but gets better as time goes on.After first year garden,plow again in the fall.

A moldboard plow and a disc harrow would do the trick and also as mentioned a subsoiler and roto tiller would also work. We have all that you may need. Ken Sweet

single implement = tiller
first time may be best to hire someone to plow it once then use the tiller everafter.

With only a tiller do a full burn down with roundup first or plan on breaking ground and planting a few weed smother crops the first year for year 2 vegetable work.

It takes me 2 years to get new ground ready for organic veggie production with out herbacides.

I'm buying a place with about an acre of good potential garden, and I'm thinking "what do I need?".
Presently it's in "lawn", but looks like it may have been a garden 10 yrs ago.
So I need to start thinking about garden implements. I think my little B7610 could handle it, but??

Hello, Find yourself a Land Pride reverse rotation tiller. RTR models ... almost a one pass operation on most new ground. I use a RTR-0550 on my Kubota 2620 .. with a very wide grin!!!

I would go for a good used 20-25 hp tractor and a used subsoiler and a new 48 inch forward rotation tiller. This should be done for around 5K. Ken Sweet

Without sounding like I work for Land Pride .. which I do not! .. Go try a RTR Land Pride .. they sell themselves .. I looked and waited .. did not want to spend the full retail price of over 2 grand .. I am frugal .. aka .. cheap .. bought one that was repossessed, from Marshall Equipment in Honesdale, PA ( pack a lunch and take a sea-sick pill .. up & down the Pocono Mts. ), but I got a super deal .. all but new .. $1,199.00 + 10 hours driving .. nice people
