Hi all,

Not trying to sell anything but I just did my homework on high speed connections. I found that the phone company was not going to ever put a DSL site out here. And all they need to do is put an expensive system add on to the local hub. Anyway I know that most try to get satalite systems, I would try DirectTV or Juno.com there are deals for the systems. Personally I went with Verizon wireless network. I get 105ks speeds thats about 2.5 mb a minute. Cable can do 5 to 12. but there not coming. It also is nice becuase I found a usb wireless N router that I hooket up and created a wireless network for my house that is faster then cat 5 and I can sit outside with my laptop. To find out if a system will work in your area. The best thing to do is talk with Sprint, ATT or Verizon. If your phone will work then there system will work. There are boosters and I like that I did not have to wire up a new dish on my house. Most places have a 30 day trial. Even at the lowest speeds I was still faster the dial up.

We run 1G on CAT5. I don' think your wireless is anywhere near that speed.

Be aware that both Verizon and Sprint now have 5GB threshold caps on their services. This should be a deciding factor *IF* you have a choice of service.

I live in a 10 mile "dead" zone for cell service. Of course there is no cable in the area. If I need high speed internet, my only option is satellite service.
What burns me up is there is fiber optics at the local telephone cross box and all that would be needed is for them to install a DSLAM unit and everyone in the area could have DSL. It's not gonna happen per the techs in the area.

Approach sales with revenue figures. Vendors are interested in expanding IF they have a market.

Techs support, Sales is where you want to focus your efforts.

Make them see you as a market.

Please help me here, I cannot get my mind around this one..... how long does it take to burn through 5 GB? My connection ocasionally runs at near stop speed for several hours, I had assumed it was just bad luck but maybe not? Maybe it's time to break my 2 year contract?

I have Verizon Wireless and have had it for 7 months now and when I purchased it it was unlimited. The new 5gb cap doesn't apply to me since I am under my original contract so this may be the same with sprint.

I am not much of a computer guy so maybe someone can help me with a couple of questions. We have about decided to go wireless with Verizon. Are there any problems using wireless on a desk top computer rather than a lap top? Does it just plug into a USB port on the back of the computer? With these new 5GB limits do you get cut off or charged more if you exceed the limits? Is there a way to monitor how much of the 5GB you have used through the month?

No, problems using wireless on a desktop.

No problems If your getting the USB modem, you can plug it in and use it.

Limits With 5gb limits, it is unclear to me how they charge. You may get throttled back, or billed, or both. That web site in a previous note, will get you other user dealings with that carrier.

Monitor Use The VZAccessManager software, as well as your bill should display you current useage. Other freeware programs are available to monitor use.

If your considering a laptop and a desktop all using the modem. I would recommend an EVDO router, using your USB modem in that, and getting BOTH the desktop and laptop connected at the same time.

I have the Sprint wireless unlimited plan for 59.99/month, and after heavy usage am not sure that I am not getting throttled back to dial-up speed..... either that or signal drift has gotten real bad out here.....

No problems If your getting the USB modem, you can plug it in and use it.

Thanks Mike, The USB modem is what comes from Verizon right? I think we will be ordering a new desk top computer from Dell. Is there anything special we should include in the order to make the Verizon wireless modem a plug in deal? No need for a lap top at this time.

You should have no problems with the USB Modem in any modern configuration.

Right?You can get these "Hardware devices" from Verizon and Sprint in many forms.
A USB device and different types of cards. You have a choice. Most people have a look at the computer first and figure out what type of "hardware device" it can support. Then place the order with the vendor.

With a modern machine, a desktop in your case, USB should be a good fit.

That web site in my previous post has a sister web site 3G Store. That is a great place to learn about this technology.

This is the same with my ATT card. Unlimited. But I had to get another card for one of our VIP's and had to get the 5g plan. I asked WTH, she said the FCC made them change from an unlimited plans and the 5g is basically unlimited. Who knows for sure, but it seems everyone went to a 5g plan. So it might make sense. I'm sure for marketing and pricing if a company could offer unlimited...they would.

BTW at one time I had verizon and ATT aircards. The ATT was hands down faster and had the best connections. This was in the houston area. We went on a trip to florida last year, houston to Destin. My daughter had the aircard going for 3 hours at one stretch. never dropped. Of course there are close towers near I-10, but this was going through 3 states. Pretty cool.
